EPCOT World Showcase Guide: How to Explore All 11 Countries
Explore all 11 countries in EPCOT World Showcase, including the best rides, food, characters, shopping, entertainment and hidden things to see.

There are two very different ways to experience World Showcase at EPCOT.
You can walk around World Showcase Lagoon, glance at the buildings, ride Frozen Ever After and Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure, eat something delicious, and call it a day.
And honestly? That is probably how a LOT of people experience it.
Or you can start walking into the countries.
That is when World Showcase gets really interesting.
There are gardens hiding behind buildings. Museums that are surprisingly good. Live musicians. Character meet and greets. Tiny shops filled with imported snacks. Beautiful architecture. Movies. A miniature train village. A waterfall tucked into a rocky Canadian canyon. And some of the best food anywhere at Disney World.
I’ve been visiting EPCOT for years, and I still find things in World Showcase that I’ve somehow missed before.
So if this is your first visit—or you’ve always treated World Showcase as that very long walk around the lagoon—this guide will help you figure out what is actually here, what is worth your time, and how to explore all 11 countries without feeling like you need to complete some kind of international scavenger hunt.
Because you don’t.
But you really should walk into Canada. 😂
What Is World Showcase at EPCOT?
World Showcase occupies roughly half of EPCOT and wraps around World Showcase Lagoon.
There are 11 country pavilions, each designed to represent a different country through some combination of architecture, landscaping, food, shopping, entertainment, attractions and cultural exhibits.
And they are wildly different from one another.
Some are packed.
Norway has one of EPCOT’s most popular rides, a princess character meet and greet, character dining, shops, snacks and a small museum.
France has Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure, two films, restaurants, bakeries, shopping and characters.
Japan doesn’t even have a ride, yet I could easily spend an hour there between Mitsukoshi, the gardens, the museum, food and live entertainment.
And then you have Italy, which is breathtakingly beautiful and has somehow managed to give me relatively few things to do besides eat pizza and admire Italy. 😂
That’s part of what makes World Showcase so much fun.
The pavilions aren’t interchangeable.
What Are the 11 Countries in EPCOT?
Starting at the front of World Showcase and heading clockwise from the Mexico side, you’ll encounter:
- Mexico
- Norway
- China
- Germany
- Italy
- The American Adventure
- Japan
- Morocco
- France
- United Kingdom
- Canada
And yes, I have now written an entire guide to every single one of them.
So I’m going to give you the highlights here. But if a particular country catches your attention, follow the link to its full pavilion guide because there is considerably more hiding in these places than I can reasonably cram into one article.
Mexico Pavilion
Mexico is one of the easiest World Showcase pavilions to underestimate because so much of it is hiding inside that enormous pyramid.
Go inside the pyramid.
Seriously.
Once you step through the doors, you enter the Plaza de los Amigos, an indoor nighttime marketplace with shops, restaurants and one of my favorite atmospheres in World Showcase.
This is also where you’ll find Gran Fiesta Tour Starring The Three Caballeros, an adorable little boat ride starring Donald Duck, José Carioca and Panchito.
Outside, you may find Mariachi Cobre performing, and Mexico is also one of the places where you can sometimes meet Donald Duck. (note: I have heard that recently Mariachi Cobre has a new home inside the pyramid. If that’s true… holy moly.. that’s even better!)
Add in some very good Mexican food, shopping and a beautiful waterfront setting, and Mexico is a pavilion where you can easily spend much longer than you expected.

Norway Pavilion
Norway packs an impressive amount into a relatively small pavilion.
The headliner is obviously Frozen Ever After, which also means Norway can become one of the busiest areas of World Showcase.
But don’t just ride Frozen and leave.
You can meet Anna and Elsa at Royal Sommerhus, explore the Stave Church Gallery, browse the shops, grab a School Bread from Kringla Bakeri Og Kafe and dine with Disney princesses at Akershus Royal Banquet Hall.
Norway is particularly good for families with younger kids because there are several recognizable Disney experiences concentrated in one small area.

China Pavilion
China is one of the World Showcase pavilions where I think the pavilion itself is the attraction.
Walk through the ornate gate and take your time.
The Temple of Heaven is gorgeous, particularly when you step inside and look up at that ceiling. The gardens and ponds are beautiful, and there are lots of architectural details that are very easy to miss if you’re just walking past on your way to Germany.
Inside the temple, you can watch Reflections of China, EPCOT’s Circle-Vision film exploring landscapes and locations throughout China.
There is also the House of Whispering Willows gallery, shopping, restaurants and snacks, and you may be able to meet Mulan.
I do wish Disney gave me a few more reasons to stay here because the physical pavilion is spectacular.

Germany Pavilion
Germany is one of our family’s favorites, although we are admittedly biased.
My husband has German heritage, I lived in Germany for two years, and walking into this pavilion feels like stepping into Disney’s extremely romanticized version of an old German town square.
And I am completely fine with that. 😂
There is no ride in Germany, but there is plenty to do.
Watch the miniature trains in the Germany Pavilion model train village, meet Snow White, browse some genuinely fun shops, listen for live entertainment at the gazebo and eat.
Definitely eat.
Biergarten Restaurant is one of our favorite Disney World table-service restaurants, complete with a German buffet and live oom-pah entertainment.
And then there is Karamell-Küche.
You could probably just follow the smell.

Italy Pavilion
Italy is gorgeous.
That is basically its superpower.
The architecture, fountains, statues and little details are beautiful during the day and absolutely spectacular around golden hour.
But compared with several of the other World Showcase countries, there really isn’t a tremendous amount to do here.
There is no ride. There isn’t a museum. There isn’t currently a major character meet and greet.
There is sometimes live entertainment, including Sergio the Italian Juggler, and there are some lovely shops.
Mostly, though?
Eat.
Via Napoli is one of my favorite restaurants in EPCOT, and the Prosciutto e Melone pizza is fantastic.
Italy may genuinely be one of the best places in World Showcase to do absolutely nothing.
Get some gelato. Find somewhere to sit. Look at the architecture.

The American Adventure
The American Adventure sits directly across World Showcase Lagoon and serves as the centerpiece of this entire half of EPCOT.
And this is another pavilion I think people underestimate.
The headline attraction is The American Adventure, an approximately 30-minute Audio-Animatronic stage show tracing major moments in American history.
But my favorite thing here isn’t the show.
It’s Voices of Liberty.
If they’re performing inside the rotunda, go listen.
This incredible a cappella group is one of my favorite entertainment offerings anywhere at Disney World, and the acoustics inside the building are phenomenal.
You’ll also find the American Heritage Gallery, Regal Eagle Smokehouse, festival entertainment at America Gardens Theatre and several places to grab snacks and drinks.

Japan Pavilion
If you ask me which World Showcase pavilions have the most to do without having a ride, Japan is going straight toward the top of the list.
I love this pavilion.
The gardens alone are worth exploring, with koi ponds, bridges, bamboo, waterfalls and some of the prettiest landscaping in EPCOT.
Then walk into Mitsukoshi Department Store.
This is one of my favorite places to shop anywhere at Disney World, particularly when I’m looking for gifts for my anime-loving daughter. You’ll find everything from Japanese snacks and Pokémon merchandise to anime figures, plush, housewares and traditional Japanese items.
Japan also has the Bijutsu-kan Gallery, Matsuriza taiko drummers and some excellent food.
And that enormous red torii gate overlooking World Showcase Lagoon?
One of the most iconic views in EPCOT.
Japan does not need a ride to be fantastic.

Morocco Pavilion
If there is one thing I want you to remember about Morocco, it is this:
You have to go looking.
Don’t stand on the World Showcase promenade, look at the front of the pavilion and decide you’ve seen Morocco.
Walk in.
Then keep walking.
There are tiled fountains, carved archways, tiny passageways, courtyards, lanterns, shops and architectural details tucked throughout the pavilion.
You can also meet Princess Jasmine, and Spice Road Table has a beautiful location along World Showcase Lagoon.
Morocco’s best feature is Morocco itself.
It rewards people who wander.

France Pavilion
France is absolutely loaded.
This is one of those pavilions where you could easily spend a substantial chunk of your EPCOT day.
There is Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure, one of the most popular rides in the park. There is Impressions de France, which I think is wonderful, and Beauty and the Beast Sing-Along, which is cute but considerably more missable for me.
There are character opportunities, gorgeous gardens, shopping and a ridiculous amount of food.
Les Halles Boulangerie-Patisserie alone could derail my plans.
Then add L’Artisan des Glaces, crêpes, multiple table-service restaurants and everything else happening back here, and France becomes one of the easiest World Showcase countries to turn into an actual destination.

United Kingdom Pavilion
The UK Pavilion feels familiar to me.
Warm. Cozy. Comfortable.
There isn’t a ride, but somehow I never feel like there is nothing to do.
Walk through the little streets. Take pictures with the red telephone booths. Browse the shops. Buy some actual Twinings tea. Wander into the beautiful gardens behind the pavilion.
If Command Performance is playing, grab a bench and listen to some British rock.
And this is also a fantastic pavilion for Disney characters.
I’ve met Alice in Wonderland and Winnie the Pooh here, and Mary Poppins continues to evade me. 😂
Then, of course, there are fish and chips.
Very good fish and chips.

Canada Pavilion
And finally, Canada.
Canada might win my award for the World Showcase pavilion most likely to make people think they’ve seen it when they absolutely have not.
Because once again:
WALK INTO THE PAVILION. 😂
Go past the gardens. Walk toward the back. Eventually you’ll find yourself surrounded by enormous rock formations, a rushing waterfall and a surprisingly convincing little Canadian canyon.
This is also where you’ll find Canada Far and Wide, the pavilion’s Circle-Vision film.
Le Cellier Steakhouse is tucked back here too, and elsewhere in the pavilion you can find maple popcorn, live entertainment at the Canada Mill Stage and some lovely gardens.
Having spent a lot of time traveling through the Canadian Rockies, I particularly love Disney’s highly condensed, extremely tidy version of Canada.
And yes, that canyon still reminds me very strongly of Johnston Canyon in Banff National Park. 😂

So Which World Showcase Pavilions Should You Prioritize?
And this is where I don’t think there is one correct answer.
If you have young kids who love Disney characters and rides, your priorities are probably going to look very different from someone visiting EPCOT primarily for food.
If you love shopping, I am sending you directly toward Japan.
If you love architecture and wandering, Morocco deserves more of your time.
If you want rides, France, Norway and Mexico immediately move up the list.
If you want live entertainment, I have opinions about that too.
So rather than ranking the countries from #1 to #11—which I don’t actually think is particularly useful—let’s look at World Showcase by what you actually want to do there.
Because that is where this guide gets really useful.
Best World Showcase Pavilions for Rides
World Showcase is definitely not the ride-heavy half of EPCOT.
There are only a handful of rides spread throughout the 11 countries, and three of them are concentrated in Mexico, Norway and France.
Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure in France and Frozen Ever After in Norway are the big ones. Both can develop substantial waits, so I would actually plan around these rather than assuming you’ll casually stumble into a 15-minute line.
Mexico has Gran Fiesta Tour Starring The Three Caballeros, which is almost the exact opposite.
I love Gran Fiesta Tour partly because it requires virtually no effort. 😂
It’s cute, it’s indoors, it’s a boat ride, and the wait is frequently very manageable. If you’re already exploring the Mexico Pavilion, there is very little reason not to ride it.
Beyond those three, World Showcase is much more about everything happening between the rides.
And I think that’s important to understand before you visit.
If you spend your entire EPCOT day racing from Lightning Lane to Lightning Lane, you can walk right through some of the best parts of World Showcase without ever realizing they’re there.
Best World Showcase Pavilions for Disney Characters
World Showcase is actually one of my favorite places at Disney World for character meet and greets.
And a lot of them make perfect sense in their respective countries.
Depending on current schedules, you may find characters including:
- Anna and Elsa in Norway
- Mulan in China
- Snow White in Germany
- Jasmine in Morocco
- Disney characters associated with France
- Alice in Wonderland, Winnie the Pooh and Mary Poppins in the United Kingdom
- Donald Duck in Mexico
Character offerings and appearance times can change, so definitely check the My Disney Experience app on the day of your visit.
But if meeting characters matters to your family, do not assume World Showcase is just for adults who want to eat and drink around the world.

And yes, I specifically carved time out of one EPCOT day to meet Winnie the Pooh.
I regret nothing. 😂

Best World Showcase Pavilions for Food
Okay.
Now we’re getting serious. 😂
You could build an entire EPCOT day around World Showcase food and never come remotely close to trying everything.
There are table-service restaurants, quick-service restaurants, bakeries, snack stands and specialty treats throughout the countries.
And I don’t think there is one universally “best” pavilion for food because it depends entirely on what you want.
Germany has Biergarten and Karamell-Küche. France has approximately 47 different ways to convince me I need another pastry. Japan has Shiki-Sai, Teppan Edo, Katsura Grill and some fantastic snacks. Italy has Via Napoli. Canada has Le Cellier. Mexico has several dining options ranging from quick service to waterfront table service.
And then EPCOT adds festival kitchens on top of all of that.
This is why I strongly recommend deciding on a few food priorities before your EPCOT day rather than attempting to eat everything that looks good.
Your stomach will surrender long before World Showcase does.

Best World Showcase Pavilions for Shopping
For me, Japan wins.
Mitsukoshi Department Store is not merely one of my favorite shops in World Showcase. It is one of my favorite shops at Disney World.
But Germany is excellent too, particularly if you like traditional German gifts, Christmas items, steins, cuckoo clocks and sweets.
The UK has some fun British merchandise and the Twinings Tea Shop.
China has a large shopping area with imported merchandise and snacks.
Mexico’s indoor marketplace is worth wandering even if you don’t intend to buy anything.
And nearly every pavilion has at least a few items that are actually connected to the country rather than another wall of generic Disney merchandise.
That’s what makes World Showcase shopping interesting to me.
I’m much more likely to bring home tea from the UK, Japanese snacks or something from Germany than another Disney World T-shirt.
Although apparently I am also perfectly capable of buying both. 😂
Best World Showcase Pavilions for Live Entertainment
This is another reason I don’t recommend rushing around World Showcase.
Some of its best experiences aren’t rides at all.
Voices of Liberty at The American Adventure is my personal favorite. If you see that they are about to perform, go inside and listen.
Seriously.
Japan’s Matsuriza taiko drummers are fantastic. Germany often has entertainment around the gazebo, and Biergarten has its own live musical performances during meals.
In the UK, Command Performance plays British rock in the garden area, which is an especially nice excuse to find a shady bench and stop moving for a while.
Canada also has performances at the Canada Mill Stage, with entertainment offerings that can change over time.
And then there is Mariachi Cobre in Mexico, another longtime EPCOT favorite.
Check the entertainment schedule in My Disney Experience because performers and showtimes can change.
And when you find something happening?
Stop.
You don’t have to keep walking just because your touring plan says Germany is next.
Best World Showcase Pavilions for Architecture and Gardens
This category is almost unfair because the entire point of World Showcase is environmental storytelling.
But there are a few places where I particularly think you should slow down.
Morocco is probably the pavilion I most want people to actually explore. Its courtyards, tilework, fountains, passageways and architectural details are hidden once you move away from the promenade.
Japan has some of my favorite landscaping in EPCOT, including the koi pond, bridges, waterfalls and gardens surrounding the pagoda.
China is beautiful, from the ornate gateway to the gardens and Temple of Heaven.
The UK has lovely gardens tucked behind its little British streets.
And Canada has perhaps the biggest surprise of all: gardens leading back into that rocky canyon and waterfall that you can barely tell exists from World Showcase Lagoon.
Italy and France are both gorgeous too.
Basically, this category is my excuse to tell you yet again:
Walk into the pavilions.
There will be a quiz. 😂
Don’t Forget About the Museums and Cultural Exhibits
This is one of the things I think gets overlooked the most in World Showcase.
Several countries have actual cultural exhibits tucked inside their pavilions.
They’re generally small. They don’t require reservations. And because they aren’t rides, people sometimes walk straight past them.
Don’t.
Japan has the Bijutsu-kan Gallery, which has hosted rotating exhibits about Japanese culture.
China has the House of Whispering Willows.
Norway has an exhibit inside the Stave Church Gallery.
And The American Adventure has the American Heritage Gallery, which has hosted some genuinely excellent exhibitions over the years.
These exhibits can change, which gives repeat visitors another reason to check back.
They’re also wonderful when you want to get out of the Florida heat for a little while without committing to another attraction queue.
Kidcot Makes World Showcase Much More Fun for Kids
Every World Showcase pavilion has a Kidcot Fun Stop.
And I think Kidcot is particularly useful for families who are worried their kids are going to spend the entire walk around World Showcase asking when they can go back to the rides. 😂
Kids can collect an activity card from each country, and suddenly walking through all 11 pavilions becomes its own little mission.
More importantly, Kidcot encourages you to actually enter the countries instead of dragging everybody around the perimeter of the lagoon.
Some Kidcot locations are tucked inside shops or cultural spaces, which naturally gets your family exploring places you might otherwise miss.
You certainly don’t need to complete every country in one visit.
But especially with elementary-age kids, Kidcot can turn World Showcase from the part of EPCOT Mom wants to see into something they feel like they’re doing too.
Is World Showcase Good for Kids?
Absolutely.
I think World Showcase has an undeserved reputation as the “adult” part of EPCOT.
Yes, adults can have a very good time eating and drinking their way around the lagoon.
But kids have Frozen Ever After. Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure. Gran Fiesta Tour. Anna and Elsa. Winnie the Pooh. Alice. Mulan. Jasmine. Snow White. Donald Duck. Kidcot. Live performers. Snacks. Gardens. Shops.
And sometimes a miniature German train is all it takes. 😂
The trick is not expecting a child to appreciate World Showcase in exactly the same way an adult does.
Mix the architecture and cultural exhibits with rides, characters, snacks and Kidcot, and World Showcase becomes much more family-friendly than people sometimes realize.
And World Showcase Is Fantastic Without Kids
On the other hand…
If you are visiting EPCOT without kids?
Ohhhh, World Showcase is your playground. 😂
Make a good dining reservation. Wander through Mitsukoshi without anybody asking when you’re leaving. Sit in the UK garden and listen to music. Watch Voices of Liberty. Explore Morocco. Have gelato in Italy. Browse the shops. Stop for another snack because apparently walking eight miles makes all previous snacks disappear.
You can spend an enormous amount of time here without riding a single thing.
That is one of the reasons EPCOT works so well for adult trips.
How Long Does It Take to Walk Around World Showcase?
If your only goal is to physically walk the loop around World Showcase Lagoon, you can obviously do it relatively quickly.
But that’s not really the question.
The question is:
How long does it take to actually experience World Showcase?
And my answer is hours.
At minimum, I would budget a substantial portion of your EPCOT day for World Showcase if this is your first visit.
If you stop for a meal, watch entertainment, meet characters, ride the attractions, explore shops and galleries and actually wander into the countries, you can very easily spend half a day or longer back here.
And during an EPCOT festival?
You could spend practically the entire day in World Showcase.
This is also why I don’t think you need to experience every single thing in all 11 countries on one trip.
World Showcase rewards repeat visits.
Should You Start World Showcase in Mexico or Canada?
Ah yes.
One of EPCOT’s great philosophical questions. 😂
If you’re entering World Showcase from the front of EPCOT, you can turn left toward Mexico or right toward Canada.
I don’t think there is a universally correct direction.
Instead, look at what you’re actually trying to accomplish.
If you have a Frozen Ever After priority, a character meeting in Norway or something else happening on the Mexico side, go left.
If you have a Le Cellier reservation, want to catch entertainment in Canada or the UK, or are ultimately headed toward France, go right.
And if you entered EPCOT through the International Gateway, none of this matters because you’re arriving between the UK and France anyway.
My biggest advice is simply not to automatically follow the crowd.
Let your reservations, attraction plans and entertainment schedule determine your direction.
Don’t Try to Tour World Showcase Like a Checklist
This may be my biggest World Showcase tip.
You do not need to march methodically through Mexico, Norway, China, Germany, Italy, America, Japan, Morocco, France, the UK and Canada in that exact order while checking attractions off a list.
That sounds exhausting.
World Showcase works better when you leave yourself some room to wander.
Maybe you hear the Matsuriza drummers while you’re walking past Japan.
Stop.
Maybe Winnie the Pooh has a short wait.
Meet Pooh.
Maybe you walk into Mitsukoshi to browse for five minutes and emerge 45 minutes later holding Pokémon merchandise and Japanese candy.
These things happen. 😂
Build your day around the handful of things that genuinely require planning—rides, dining reservations and any entertainment or character appearances you especially want to catch.
Then let some of the rest happen naturally.
How to Balance World Showcase With EPCOT’s Big Rides
This can be tricky because many of EPCOT’s biggest attractions are outside World Showcase.
You may also want Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, Test Track, Spaceship Earth, Soarin’ Around the World, Living with the Land and other attractions elsewhere in the park.
Trying to bounce continuously between those attractions and individual World Showcase countries can turn your EPCOT day into a lot of unnecessary walking.
And EPCOT already provides plenty of walking without our help. 😂
I generally prefer to cluster World Showcase time together.
Use the earlier part of your day for major ride priorities if that makes sense for your touring strategy, and then transition into World Showcase for a longer block of time.
That doesn’t mean you can never leave.
But once I’m back here eating, exploring shops, watching entertainment and wandering through the countries, I don’t particularly want to hike all the way across EPCOT because I scheduled something badly.

You May Want Two EPCOT Days
If EPCOT is important to you and your vacation is long enough to allow it, I am a huge fan of having two EPCOT days.
One day gives you enough time to see the highlights.
Two days gives you enough time to breathe.
You can prioritize rides on one visit and spend considerably more time exploring World Showcase on the other.
This becomes even more valuable during a festival, when EPCOT has essentially added another layer of food, entertainment, exhibits and activities on top of everything already in the park.
You also don’t have to feel like your entire vacation will collapse because you didn’t make it into the China gallery or missed Voices of Liberty by five minutes.
There’s another EPCOT day.
That is a wonderful feeling.
World Showcase Is Even Better During an EPCOT Festival
And then Disney decides World Showcase doesn’t already have enough going on and throws a festival on top of it. 😂
EPCOT currently hosts four major seasonal festivals throughout much of the year:
EPCOT International Festival of the Arts adds visual art, performing arts, interactive activities, Disney on Broadway and some of the most creative food of the year.
EPCOT International Flower & Garden Festival transforms the park with character topiaries, gardens, exhibits, the Garden Rocks concert series and outdoor kitchens. World Showcase is particularly beautiful during this festival.
EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival adds food and beverage marketplaces throughout EPCOT and is probably the festival most closely associated with the idea of eating around the world.
And EPCOT International Festival of the Holidays brings holiday traditions, storytellers, seasonal food and entertainment to the countries around World Showcase, with the Candlelight Processional at The American Adventure as its centerpiece.
I love EPCOT festivals.
But I also think it’s important to remember that World Showcase is already fantastic without them.
Don’t become so focused on visiting every festival booth that you forget there is an entire country sitting behind it.
Is EPCOT World Showcase Worth Your Time?
Absolutely.
And I think the biggest mistake you can make is assuming World Showcase is essentially a collection of themed restaurants arranged around a lake.
It’s so much more than that.
There are rides and movies. Characters and live musicians. Museums and cultural exhibits. Gardens and architecture. Shops and snacks. Restaurants ranging from quick service to genuinely special dining experiences.
But the best part of World Showcase is that you don’t have to experience it the same way every time.
Some visits I care about the food.
Sometimes I’m chasing characters.
Sometimes I’m there during a festival.
Sometimes I spend an unreasonable amount of time in Mitsukoshi.
And sometimes I discover that Canada has apparently been hiding an entire canyon from me for years. 😂
That’s why, after all these trips to EPCOT, World Showcase still doesn’t feel finished to me.
There is always another courtyard to wander into, another performance to stop for, another exhibit to see or another snack I somehow need to try.
So ride Frozen. Ride Remy. Make the dining reservation.
But then slow down.
Walk into the countries.
That’s where World Showcase gets good.
