About Sunshine Whispers

Hey there, and welcome to Sunshine Whispers.

Welcome to Sunshine Whispers and Kid Friendly Maryland! I’m Sara Reimers and I started this blogging journey in 2014.. And I have a confession to make.

When I founded Sunshine Whispers, I literally had no idea what I was doing or what I wanted to write about.

So, I wrote about… everything. But over the years I kept gravitating to travel and fun things to do with kids in Maryland. And now I am almost exclusively writing, researching, and exploring fun family travel ideas for day trips, weekend trips, or kid friendly family vacations.

Have you ever taken one of those quizzes in the back of a magazine.. Or maybe a mandatory training class at work that helps you identify your passion and gifts? Yeah, I don’t need to take a quiz to know what mine are. I LOVE LOVE LOVE to explore. And I have a passion and knack for planning fantastic trips and researching the snot out of the locations our family goes to.

I have lived all over the world– New York, Texas, Arkansas, California, Hawaii, Germany, a semester in France in college. And my family moved to Bulgaria when I was in college so I spent a lot of time there as well. After I got out of the Army (I am a vet!), we moved to Maryland and have been living here ever since.

In every place I have ever lived I honed the skills of putting together fabulous itineraries. In college I thought nothing of driving 3 hours to see some fantastic rock formations and waterfalls in the Ozarks. My husband and I tried to live the Aloha with much enthusiasm when we lived in Hawaii. And when I lived in Germany and France, I had the train schedules out ahead of every weekend.. Mapping out the perfect destinations to explore.

For the past 10 years though, it’s all been about showing the world to my daughter. As soon as she was old enough to walk, we tried to explore every fun and beautiful spot in Maryland, the Mid-Atlantic Region, and beyond. Almost all of the Maryland and travel content on the blog is first-hand experiences we have had.

These are my photos– almost exclusively taken on an iphone. I have never stopped working full time at a day job, so we have managed to fit our travel adventures into the weekends, days off, spring breaks, and summer vacations. Also, I pride myself on the fact that over 95% of the destinations featured on the blog are researched and paid for by us. I accept very few sponsored trips and experiences. Why? Because I want to craft the best travel ideas in an authentic way for busy families who don’t have a never-ending supply of money or time.

I am a Disney nut and the Disney content on the blog represents my experience, tips, and research based on a Disney lover who doesn’t travel to Disney all the time. I am not in the parks every week trying out the latest restaurant or experience.. But chances are neither are you. You are the ‘once every few years traveler’.. Or ‘once in a lifetime traveler’… that needs great tips to maximize your fun on the vacation of a lifetime for you and your kids.

National Parks are currently our family’s obsession. In the past few years we have planned epic vacations to almost 15 US National Parks and I am convinced these parks are some of the best places to visit in the world!

Thanks for visiting Sunshine Whispers. I hope I can inspire you to explore with your family and the tools to plan the best possible trips yourself!
