Karamell-Küche Review: Is This Epcot Caramel Shop Worth It?

Thinking about visiting Karamell-Küche at Epcot? Here’s my review of the famous caramel shop, including the caramel popcorn, caramel turtle, caramel apple, and my best tips.
Estimated reading time: 10 minutes
There are a few places at Epcot where I already know I am stopping before I even walk through the park entrance.
Karamell-Küche is one of them.
Actually, this may be the easiest sell in all of World Showcase.
Do you like caramel?
Great. Go inside.
That is pretty much the review.
Of course, the real problem starts once you get in there, because there are so many choices. Caramel popcorn. Caramel apples. Caramel turtles. Caramel butter bars. Chocolate-covered things. Cookies. Seasonal treats. Usually at least one thing I had no intention of buying until I saw it in the case.
And somehow, all of it looks good.
This is not one of those places where I can confidently tell you there is one obvious winner and everything else is filler.
There really is not.
I have tried several things here, and I have yet to walk away thinking, “Well, that was disappointing.”

Where Is Karamell-Küche?
Karamell-Küche is located in the Germany Pavilion in Epcot’s World Showcase.
It is not hard to find.
Honestly, you may smell it before you see it.
The entire place smells like warm caramel, chocolate, and sugar, which is probably why walking past without stopping feels almost impossible.
It is connected to the shops in the pavilion, so even if you think you are only going in to browse, there is a decent chance you are coming back out holding a bag of something.
That has happened to me more than once.
What I Have Tried
I have tried four things here so far, and I would happily eat all four again.
That does not make ranking them especially easy.
Karamel Popcorn

This may be the thing I associate most with Karamell-Küche.
The popcorn is coated in caramel, but not in that hard, stale way you sometimes get with packaged caramel corn. It tastes fresher than that, and it is dangerously easy to keep eating.
You tell yourself you are just going to have a handful.
Then another.
Then somehow half the bag is gone.
In my best snacks in Epcot guide I ranked it in a tie with the maple popcorn from Canada because I honestly could not choose between them. They are different, but they are both very good at what they do.
The other nice thing about the popcorn is that you do not have to eat it immediately. You can throw it in your bag and save it for later, which is probably smarter than trying to eat your way through Germany, Italy, Japan, and France all at once.
Not that I have ever made that mistake.
Caramel Turtle

This is probably my favorite individual treat here.
Chocolate, caramel, pecans.
There is not much that can go wrong with that combination.
It is rich, obviously, but it also feels a little more balanced than some of the heavier caramel desserts. The pecans keep it from turning into one giant sugar bomb, and it is just big enough to feel like a real treat without becoming a project.
This one landed near the very top of my Epcot dessert rankings for a reason.
Caramel Apple

The caramel apples here are huge.
And loaded.
And not remotely subtle.
Which is exactly what you want from a Disney caramel apple.
This is definitely one I would share unless you are extremely committed. They are heavy, messy, and usually covered in enough caramel and toppings to qualify as a full meal.
But they are also really good.
The apple gives you at least the illusion that you are eating something healthy, which I appreciate.
Caramel Butter Bar

The caramel butter bar is good.
Really good, actually.
It just happens to live in a display case where almost everything else is also really good.
That is the problem with Karamell-Küche.
Something has to rank lower, but that does not mean I would turn it down.
The butter bar is rich, soft, sweet, and definitely not something I would try to eat right before a big dinner reservation. This is one of those desserts where sharing is probably the better plan.
Unless you are having a day.
Then do what you need to do.
Seasonal Gingerbread Caramel Cookie

One quick seasonal tip…
If you’re visiting during the Christmas season and you see the Gingerbread Caramel Cookie, buy it.
Seriously.
Don’t stand there debating it.
It’s one of my favorite seasonal treats at Disney World, and it disappears once the holidays are over. Between the soft gingerbread and the gooey caramel, it’s a combination that’s hard to beat.
Is There a Best Thing to Order?
Maybe.
But I am not convinced there is one answer that works for everybody.
If you want something easy to carry around, get the popcorn.
If you want chocolate and caramel together, get the turtle.
If you want the full Disney snack experience, get the caramel apple.
If you want something rich and bakery-like, get the butter bar.
Honestly, this is one of those places where I think the best strategy is just to walk in and see what looks good that day.
Because something will.
Probably several somethings.

Is Karamell-Küche Worth It?
Yes.
Without hesitation.
I would put Karamell-Küche in the same category as Les Halles and Kringla Bakeri Og Kafe.
You do not necessarily need a precise plan.
You just need to go inside.
There are so many choices, and I have never had anything bad here. That does not mean every single item is equally amazing, but the overall quality is high enough that I am comfortable telling people to pick whatever catches their eye.
The bigger challenge is remembering that you still have the rest of World Showcase to eat your way through.
Because once you start looking at the case, restraint gets a little harder.

Who Should Visit Karamell-Küche?
If you have even a slight sweet tooth…
You should probably stop here.
Actually, even if caramel isn’t normally your thing, I’d still recommend walking inside. There are so many different treats that chances are something will catch your eye.
I also think this is a great place for families because it’s so easy to share. Instead of everyone ordering their own dessert, grab a couple of different treats and let everyone sample a little bit of everything.
That’s honestly one of my favorite ways to experience Karamell-Küche.
My Best Tips for Visiting
Don’t rush your decision.
Seriously.
This is one of the few places at Disney where I actually think it’s worth standing there for a minute and looking at everything before you order.
Normally I know exactly what I’m getting before I walk into a restaurant.
Not here.
Half the fun is seeing what’s in the display case that day.
Bring a few sandwich-size Ziploc bags with you.
This is one of my favorite Disney packing tips.
A lot of the treats here are rich, and unless you’re sharing with a group, you may not want to finish everything at once. I’ll often toss a few Ziploc bags in my park bag so I can save the rest for later without it getting stale or making a sticky mess in my backpack.
They also come in handy if you decide to take caramel popcorn back to your hotel room for a late-night snack.
Don’t feel like you have to eat everything immediately.
Some of the best things at Karamell-Küche travel really well.
The caramel popcorn is an obvious choice, but some of the packaged caramel treats also make great souvenirs or something to enjoy after you get home.
Sometimes it’s nice to bring a little piece of Disney back with you.
More Great Places to Eat in Germany
One of the things I love about the Germany Pavilion is that Karamell-Küche isn’t the only reason to stop here.
If you’re looking for a full meal, Biergarten Restaurant is one of my favorite table service restaurants at Epcot. The German buffet is delicious, the live entertainment is a lot of fun, and it’s one of those restaurants that feels like an experience as much as a meal.
Looking for something a little quicker? Sommerfest serves classic German favorites like bratwurst, jumbo pretzels, and pretzel bread pudding. It’s a great option if you want something more substantial before (or after!) treating yourself to caramel.
How It Compares to Other Epcot Dessert Stops
One of the things I love about Epcot is that every country has its own specialty.
If I want French pastries, I’m heading to Les Halles.
If I’m in the mood for ice cream, it’s L’Artisan des Glaces.
If I want a cozy bakery, I love Kringla Bakeri Og Kafe.
But if I’m craving caramel…
There’s really only one answer.
Karamell-Küche does one thing exceptionally well, and that’s probably why it has become one of the most popular snack stops in all of Epcot.
Final Thoughts
One thing I’ve learned after several trips to Epcot is that not every snack stop needs to have one perfect menu item.
Karamell-Küche is the perfect example.
I could tell you to order the Caramel Turtle.
Or the popcorn.
Or the caramel apple.
And I’d feel pretty good about every one of those recommendations.
But honestly?
I’d rather tell you to walk inside and see what looks good.
There’s something about seeing all of those caramel treats lined up in the display case that pictures just don’t do justice.
I almost always end up changing my mind at least once before I order.
And here’s one final confession…
I don’t think I’ve ever walked into Karamell-Küche and walked out empty-handed.
Actually…
I don’t think I’ve ever even come close.
I guess that tells you everything you need to know.
