How to Make Your Staycation Actually Feel Like a Getaway
Check out these tips for how to make your staycation feel like a getaway. Great ideas for when you need a break but just can’t travel.
If you are on a tight budget or don’t think you can manage to get away for a real vacation, a staycation is still an excellent option. With a little bit of planning and prep work, your staycation can feel just as relaxing as a vacation but without having to leave the city limits. If you want your staycation to feel like a getaway, here are a few things you need to do!
Go Off-the-Grid from Work
If you work from home or have a hard time disconnecting from work, this one can be hard. Try your best to go off-the-grid from your day job, and enjoy your time off! If you were taking a real vacation, you wouldn’t still be checking work emails. If you wouldn’t do work activities on a regular vacation, don’t do them on a staycation!
Make a Plan for your Vacation
Don’t just take a few days off and expect the rest to figure itself out. Instead, make a plan for your vacation. Write down some places you want to visit, eat, or things you want to do. This will help keep boredom at bay and give you some ideas for what to do while you are enjoying your time off.
Put Your Phone Down
Instead of looking at Karen’s cruise photos from last week, live in the moment. Put your phone down and focus on your own vacation. Your friends, family, and other responsibilities will still be there when you get back from your vacation. Again, if you wouldn’t check in with friends while you are on vacation, don’t do it during a staycation.
Do “Vacation” Activities
Do you usually cook while you are on vacation? Do laundry? If you don’t usually do these things on vacation, don’t do them on your staycation! Doing vacation activities such as going to see the sites and going out to eat are all things you would do on vacation.
Enjoy your staycation by doing more vacation activities. It’s okay to relax a bit, but make sure you squeeze in some fun too. Going to the beach, if you live by the coast, or going somewhere fun can make your staycation feel like a vacation.
Get Out of the House
Out of everything on the list, this one is the most important! Get out of your house or out of your hotel room. Go out and see your town’s local attractions or visit some of the weird off the wall places you wouldn’t usually go to. If you are staying at home all day and night, then this is no different from a typical day at home.
Challenge yourself to get out of the house at least once each day, even if you can’t afford to go out to eat. Go out for ice cream or even just a walk instead. I promise this is going to make a massive difference for your vacation.
Taking a staycation doesn’t have to be a terrible vacation! If you follow these tips, you can ensure that even your staycation feels like a real vacation.
