10 Rules for Planning a Staycation at Home
If you are planning a staycation at home this year, follow these 10 ‘rules’ for an excellent vacation!
Staycations can be a great way to enjoy some time off without leaving your house. But, if you’re not careful, you will end up spending your entire staycation doing everything you usually would when you’re at home! Here are ten rules for planning a staycation at home.
Clean Your House Before and After Your Staycation
Do a good clean of your house the day before and the day after your staycation. This should keep your home from getting so unbearable during your vacation that you feel like you need to clean.
Have a Concrete Plan for Your “Trip”
You don’t have to plan out every single activity you’ll do on your staycation, but you should have a good idea of at least how many days you’ll be vacationing. This includes when it starts and ends, but also what kind of staycation you want to have.
Treat Your Staycation Like a Real Vacation
Your staycation will only feel like a vacation if you treat it like one! You wouldn’t do chores during your vacation, so don’t do them during your staycation!
Take a Digital Detox
Take a little time away from social media and other sites, and take a digital detox. Your trip will much less relaxing and more fun.
Be Out of the Office or School
Talk with coworkers and your boss ahead of time, and make a plan to stay away from work at all costs. This includes things like checking your email or doing homework too.
Consult Your Calendar
There is such a thing as a bad time to staycation. If you have a lot going on that week, don’t plan to staycation during that week!
Plan Activities Ahead of Time
You don’t have to structure your days while staycationing completely, but you should at least have a good idea of what you want to do during your time at home. Make a list of activities to beat boredom and have some fun!
Get Yourself in the Right Mindset
Mindset is a significant factor here! Get yourself into the right mindset by clearing your mind and even preparing for your trip ahead of time so that the urge to worry isn’t as strong.
Reduce the Urge to Be a Housekeeper
You will probably have to do a little laundry or a little bit of tidying up to keep your home from being a complete disaster. However, now is not the time to do any deep cleaning. Do what you have to do and then call it quits until after your staycation has ended!
Give Yourself Permission to Be Unproductive
It’s okay if you spend your days catching up on sleep and relaxing as a family. Give yourself permission to be completely unproductive and get nothing done during this time. It’s okay to take time off, and your work will still be there when you get back.
These rules are just a starting place for planning your vacation. However, they can make it so much easier to plan your vacation and stick to it!
