Health and fitness isn’t exactly the most exciting thing in the world, especially to kids. If you don’t have kids who love sports or play outside, you may find it a lot harder to get them on board with exercise and fit. While you don’t have to encourage your kids to start lifting weights, there are few things you can do to help encourage your kids to be healthier and more fit! Here are my best tips to encourage your kids to exercise and be fit.

Get the whole family involved

Instead of singling out your children and encouraging them to run around or join a sports team, consider making fitness a family activity. You can go for hikes, walks around the block, or even go bike riding together. Finding ways to do fitness together can make it easier for kids to get involved because it becomes a family activity.

Focus on fun ways to exercise

Kids don’t want to walk on a treadmill or work out on an elliptical. If you want your kids to exercise, find fun ways to make it happen! Dance parties, a trip to the zoo, or walking around the amusement park are great ways to get in some exercise that beats trying to force them to ride a bike! Look for fun activities that your kids can do that make it feel more like fun.

Use competition as a motivator

If you have competitive children, you can easily use this as a motivator! Challenge your family to see who can get the most steps in during a day! See who can bike the farthest or the longest before needing to take a break. There are so many different ways you can challenge each other to encourage everyone to embrace fitness in your home.

Limit screen time

Screens have made us all just a bit more lazy than we used to be. While screens have made a lot of things possible, they have also made us more sedentary. By limiting your child’s screen time, all of a sudden, they will have a lot more time to run around outside or even just do something besides sit in front of the TV all day. Some screen time can be a good thing, but if you set limits on that screen time, you’ll find that your children will find more active ways to have fun.

Play with your children

Your children want your attention and want to spend time with you! Run around with them in the backyard.  Play a game of tag or hide and seek. Or, find ways to play with your kids. You’ll find that your kids will be more open to ideas that involve exercise if they get to do them with you!

As you can see, incorporating a fit lifestyle into your child’s life doesn’t have to be hard! You can do many things or simple changes you can make that will have a huge impact on their lives without worrying about whether or not they are healthy.
