The Importance of Family Game Nights for Busy Families
Family Game Nights are such a fun family tradition that will really bring you closer together. Find out why you should start this tradition in your family!
As a busy mom, it doesn’t take long before my schedule starts to fill up. Between after school activities, the daily tasks that come with being a mom, and working, squeezing in family time is a struggle.
To make an effort to spend more time together as a family, we created family game night in our household. This is a time when we can relax even if it’s only for an hour or so and spend time together as a family! If you are on the fence about family game night, here is why it’s so essential for busy families.

Game night can be a family bonding activity
As busy parents, we don’t always get the time we want to spend with our kids. Family game nights can be a great way to bond together as a family. Everyone is doing an activity that they find fun, and they don’t even realize that they’re bonding in the process! The best part about family game nights is that there are games for any age group! You can mix and match teams to get the unique chance to spend more time with a particular child if you want to!
Game night promote problem-solving
Game nights involve strategy and problem-solving to win the game. While movie nights are a fun way to spend the evening, they often involve sitting in silence for hours at a time. With family game night, you are encouraging conversation and requiring problem-solving skills to win the game. This is great for kids who spend too much time on their devices or doing mindless activities during the day.
Family game nights can reduce stress
As a busy parent, I can relate to the fact that we get stressed out nearly every week! Playing a fun game sounds tedious at first, but in the middle of a game of Life, Monopoly, or Pictionary, I forget all about all the things I still have left to do on my to-do list. For that small pocket of time, I get to spend time with my family and unwind for a while. Something that sounds like just one more activity that’s keeping you from getting something done actually turns into just what you needed at the end of a long day.
Family game nights create a fun family tradition
There are so many fun memories I have with my family about hour-long UNO games or nights spent revisiting old board games. These become fun family memories that I wouldn’t trade for the world! Family game nights are an opportunity to plan something fun that will become a family tradition your kids will pass down to their own kids someday. Family game nights don’t have to cost a lot of money, so they even work for those hard times when you’re strapped for cash.
Making time for family game night will have so many benefits beyond the fun games you play! I hope this has inspired you to find time in your schedule for family game nights too.
