World Celebration at EPCOT: Rides, Attractions, Food, and Things to Do
Explore World Celebration at EPCOT, including Spaceship Earth, CommuniCore Hall, characters, restaurants, shopping, Club Cool, gardens, and more.

If there is one part of EPCOT that feels like the heart of the park, it is probably World Celebration.
After all, this is where you will find the giant golf ball.
Yes, yes. I know. It is Spaceship Earth. But even people who have never stepped foot inside EPCOT know exactly what you mean when you say “the EPCOT ball.”
And Spaceship Earth really does dominate this entire area. You see it when you enter the park. You walk underneath it. You photograph it approximately 75 times during your vacation. Then you come back after dark and photograph it another 75 times because now it is glowing and looks completely different.
But World Celebration is more than EPCOT’s iconic geodesic sphere.
This is essentially the spine of EPCOT. It’s the area you continually pass through as you move between World Nature, World Discovery, and World Showcase. And along the way, you’ll find restaurants, shops, character greetings, entertainment, gardens, festival activities, playgrounds, a splash pad, and one of the strangest soda-tasting experiences at Disney World.
In other words, you might not necessarily wake up thinking, Today I am going to spend three hours exploring World Celebration.
But you’re probably going to spend quite a bit of your EPCOT day here anyway.
What Is World Celebration at EPCOT?
World Celebration is one of the three neighborhoods that make up the front half of EPCOT, along with World Nature and World Discovery.
And of the three, I think World Celebration is the hardest to define.
World Nature has The Land, The Seas with Nemo & Friends, and Journey of Water. World Discovery has some of EPCOT’s biggest thrill rides.
World Celebration is more like EPCOT’s living room.
This is where you will find Spaceship Earth and the Imagination Pavilion, but it is also where you’ll stop for Starbucks, meet Mickey Mouse, shop for Disney souvenirs, try Coca-Cola flavors from around the world, watch live entertainment, eat festival food, or just sit down and charge your phone.
The newer World Celebration Gardens and CommuniCore area have made this even more true.
Do I think Disney needed years of construction to essentially give EPCOT some really nice shrubbery?
Ehhhhhh. 😂
But now that everything is open and Disney is beginning to figure out how to use CommuniCore Hall and Plaza, I appreciate this area more than I did when it first debuted.
And there really is a lot here.
Spaceship Earth Is the Icon of EPCOT
Let’s start with the obvious.
Spaceship Earth isn’t just the centerpiece of World Celebration. It is EPCOT.
Cinderella Castle means Magic Kingdom. The Tree of Life means Animal Kingdom. And Spaceship Earth is the image most people immediately associate with EPCOT.
It’s also incredibly photogenic.
Get the obligatory photo from the front of the park. Photograph it from underneath. Photograph it across the water. Look for PhotoPass photographers and Magic Shots. Take pictures of it from World Showcase.
And definitely photograph Spaceship Earth at night.
The lighting transforms the entire structure after dark, and this is one of those rare Disney icons where I don’t think you can possibly take too many pictures.
Well, you probably can.
I apparently haven’t reached that number yet. 😂
Spaceship Earth Is Also a Ride
Here’s the other thing that sometimes gets lost in all the photos.
There is actually a ride inside that giant ball.
Spaceship Earth is one of the quintessential EPCOT edutainment attractions. It isn’t remotely thrilling. Instead, you slowly travel through scenes depicting the development of human communication, from ancient civilizations and early written language through printing, telecommunications, computers, and beyond.
I really like it.
This is a dark, air-conditioned, wonderfully chill ride. I wouldn’t necessarily recommend trying to take a nap on Spaceship Earth, but I can personally confirm that it is possible.
Especially when the ride stops for a while. 😂
But when I’m awake, I genuinely enjoy it. Spaceship Earth is interesting rather than exciting, and I think that distinction is important. Not every Disney attraction needs to fling me backward through space.
Sometimes I want to sit in a little ride vehicle and learn about the Phoenicians.
Spaceship Earth and Lightning Lane
Spaceship Earth is also an attraction I regularly include in my EPCOT Lightning Lane Multi Pass strategy.
If I’m buying Lightning Lane Multi Pass, my initial selections will often include Test Track, Soarin’, and Spaceship Earth. I like using Spaceship Earth relatively early because once I tap into that reservation, I can start looking for another attraction.
Living with the Land is frequently my next target, although I’ll certainly grab something like Frozen Ever After or Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure if the opportunity presents itself.
You certainly don’t need Lightning Lane for Spaceship Earth every time you ride it. Waits fluctuate considerably throughout the day. But this is one of those attractions that fits nicely into my overall EPCOT touring strategy.
Spaceship Earth Is Getting Reimagined
And now we need to talk about the elephant—or perhaps giant geodesic sphere—in the room.
Disney has announced plans to reimagine Spaceship Earth, bringing the attraction’s story of human connection forward into the modern era.
I am cautiously optimistic.
Actually, I’m pretty excited about the possibilities. Spaceship Earth desperately needs its final portion brought into the 21st century.
But Disney, I am begging you:
Do not mess with the parts that are already working.
Keep Mesopotamia. Keep the Phoenicians. Keep the printing press. Keep the history.
There is plenty of space toward the latter portion of this attraction where Disney could take us from the 1980s through the birth of the internet, smartphones, social media, artificial intelligence, and whatever comes next.
So Josh D’Amaro, if you’re listening: don’t screw with the good stuff. Just finish the story. 😂
GEO-82 Is One of EPCOT’s Newest Adults-Only Experiences
There’s now another reason to go inside Spaceship Earth—and this one doesn’t involve Phoenicians.
GEO-82 is an adults-only lounge located inside Spaceship Earth, and I finally had a chance to experience it.
This place is bougie.
And I mean that as a compliment.
The entire lounge feels elevated compared with a typical theme-park restaurant. It’s sleek and sophisticated, with geometric details that echo the architecture of Spaceship Earth.
But what impressed me most was the food.
The food at GEO-82 is seriously on point. We tried several items, and this isn’t a place where the food feels like an afterthought designed to accompany the cocktails.
Speaking of cocktails, I even ordered one.
I almost never drink alcohol, so this is not exactly something I do my way around World Showcase. But I tried one at GEO-82, and it was actually really good.
Will I now start choosing cocktails over water or soda every time I visit EPCOT?
No. 😂
But I absolutely think GEO-82 is worth considering, particularly if you’re visiting EPCOT on an adults-only trip. In my experience, it is one of the better lounges at Disney World.
The Imagination Pavilion Is Also Part of World Celebration
The Imagination Pavilion sits off to one side of World Celebration, and yes, it really is part of this neighborhood.
This is where you’ll find Journey Into Imagination With Figment, ImageWorks, and the Disney & Pixar Short Film Festival.
We’ve already discussed my complicated relationship with the current Figment attraction.
I am not its biggest fan.
But I also recognize that Figment has an enormous emotional hold over generations of EPCOT fans. If you grew up visiting EPCOT in the 1980s, 1990s, or early 2000s—or you’re now bringing kids who adore Figment—your feelings may be considerably warmer than mine.
And that’s okay.
There are attractions at Disney World that I will defend with my entire chest that somebody else thinks are completely ridiculous. That’s part of the fun.
I’ve written a complete guide to the Imagination Pavilion at EPCOT if you want a deeper look at everything there. For our purposes here, just know that this somewhat quirky little corner of EPCOT officially belongs to World Celebration.
World Celebration Gardens: Yes, There Is a Lot of Shrubbery
And now we arrive at the shrubbery.
When EPCOT’s massive transformation was finally completed, I think plenty of Disney fans looked at World Celebration Gardens and collectively thought:
Wait. We waited how many years for this?
I understand the criticism because I had basically the same reaction.
But I also want to be fair.
World Celebration Gardens are lovely.
There is a ton of landscaping, plenty of seating, and lots of places where you can stop, relax, eat something, charge your phone, and regroup before heading back into the EPCOT chaos.
If I lived in Orlando, had an Annual Pass, and wanted to bring my laptop to EPCOT and work outside for a few hours?
This would be fantastic.
For the average family spending one precious vacation day at EPCOT, I’m still not entirely convinced the finished product matches the enormous amount of time and construction required to create it.
But I use this area all the time.
And that’s ultimately the important part.
Dreamers Point and Walt the Dreamer
One of the most meaningful additions to World Celebration Gardens is Dreamers Point, where you’ll find the Walt the Dreamer statue.
Rather than the older, established Walt standing beside Mickey that you may recognize from Magic Kingdom, this statue depicts a younger Walt Disney sitting and looking toward the future.
It’s a lovely addition to EPCOT.
There is frequently a PhotoPass photographer stationed nearby, so if one is there, this is a great opportunity to get a family photo with Walt rather than trying to awkwardly orchestrate the whole thing yourself.
Even if you don’t stop for a photograph, take a minute to see the statue.
For a park that has always been so closely tied to ideas about imagination, innovation, and the future, Walt feels right at home here.
World Celebration Is Even Better at Night
This is also one area of EPCOT that I think improves dramatically once the sun goes down.
Spaceship Earth lights up. The pavement and surrounding lighting come alive. The gardens feel completely different.
And suddenly all that shrubbery looks considerably more impressive. 😂
If you rushed through World Celebration during the day on your way to Soarin’ or Guardians of the Galaxy, make a point of walking through it again after dark.
World Celebration at night feels less like a very expensive landscaping project and much more like the futuristic heart of EPCOT that I think Disney was trying to create in the first place.
CommuniCore Hall Is Finally Starting to Find Its Purpose
When CommuniCore Hall first opened, I wasn’t entirely sure what to make of it.
Disney had spent years rebuilding the center of EPCOT, and this was supposed to be a major piece of the finished product. But a big flexible event space is only as interesting as what Disney actually puts inside it.
Thankfully, I think they’re starting to figure that out.
I’ve now visited CommuniCore Hall during several EPCOT festivals, and this is where I want Disney to keep leaning in.
During the EPCOT International Festival of the Holidays, Disney created a giant gingerbread version of Spaceship Earth inside CommuniCore Hall.
It was fantastic.
During the EPCOT International Festival of the Arts, I’ve seen displays featuring costumes and set pieces connected to Disney on Broadway. Again: fantastic.
This is exactly what I want CommuniCore Hall to be.
Give me exhibits. Give me art. Give me demonstrations. Give me festival-specific activities that make me want to walk inside every time I visit EPCOT because I don’t know what might be there.
Disney has also used this space for seasonal programming outside the major festivals, which is another good sign.
And Food & Wine?
Disney. My friends.
You built an entire festival hall.
People have been begging for years for more of the demonstrations, seminars, and experimental food experiences that made earlier versions of the EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival so much fun.
The building is right there.
I’m just saying. 😂
CommuniCore Plaza Adds Entertainment to the Mix
Immediately outside CommuniCore Hall is CommuniCore Plaza, and I think this space works particularly well when you consider it together with the hall, gardens, festival booths, and surrounding seating.
This is where you can catch live entertainment, including ¡Celebración Encanto!, which I actually think is really cute.
It’s not something I would build my entire EPCOT day around, but if you’re nearby when it’s happening, stop and watch. It’s colorful, energetic, and fun, especially for families with kids who love Encanto.
And this is where the whole World Celebration concept starts making more sense to me.
Grab something from a nearby festival booth. Find a table. Eat your food. Watch some entertainment. Let everyone sit down for a little while.
Then go use the bathrooms inside CommuniCore Hall.
And yes, I’m including the bathrooms as a World Celebration tip because they’re really good bathrooms.
Sometimes Disney vacation advice is glamorous.
Sometimes you just need to know where the good bathrooms are. 😂
Don’t Rush Through the Walkway Toward World Showcase
One of my favorite things about this entire central section of EPCOT is how much it changes during the festivals.
As you walk from the CommuniCore area toward World Showcase, pay attention to what Disney has added along the way.
During the Festival of the Arts, you may find chalk art and artists working right there in the park. During Flower & Garden, landscaping and garden displays become part of the experience. Other festivals bring their own booths, decorations, and activities into the area.
It’s easy to think of this stretch as nothing more than the walkway you use to get from the front of EPCOT to World Showcase.
Don’t.
Especially during a festival, slow down and look around.
Some of the best festival details at EPCOT aren’t necessarily inside a pavilion or attached to a ride. They’re just sitting along the path you were already going to walk.
Meet Mickey, Minnie, and Goofy at Mickey & Friends
World Celebration is also home to one of the easiest ways to meet several classic Disney characters at EPCOT.
At Mickey & Friends, you can meet Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, and Goofy.
I’ve done this character greeting, and I really like it.
If meeting classic Disney characters is important to your family, this is an efficient stop because you aren’t wandering all over EPCOT trying to track everyone down individually.
And frankly, sometimes you just need a picture with Mickey Mouse.
You’re at Disney World. It’s practically required. 😂
Keep an Eye Out for the JAMMitors
Then there are the JAMMitors.
Only EPCOT could turn a group of guys who look like they’re doing custodial work into live entertainment.
The JAMMitors perform percussion using trash cans, buckets, brooms, and other decidedly nontraditional instruments, and they’re one of those little Disney entertainment offerings I love stumbling across.
You don’t need to restructure your entire touring plan around them.
But if you hear percussion and see a crowd gathering in World Celebration, stop for a few minutes.
These smaller performances are part of what makes a Disney park feel alive rather than like a collection of rides connected by sidewalks.
Connections Eatery and Connections Café
If you’re hungry, World Celebration has one of EPCOT’s largest quick-service restaurants.
Connections Eatery serves the kind of food that feels more like traditional theme-park fare than many of the options you’ll find around World Showcase.
I’ve eaten here several times. I don’t hate it.
That’s not exactly going on a Disney billboard, is it? 😂
But that’s basically how I feel.
I’ve had burgers and other meals here, and everything has been perfectly fine. Connections can be particularly useful if you’re traveling with picky eaters or someone who just wants familiar food instead of making another lap around World Showcase debating between Moroccan, Japanese, French, and German cuisine.
It serves a purpose.
Right next door, Connections Café is essentially EPCOT’s Starbucks. So if caffeine is the thing standing between you and your next Lightning Lane reservation, Disney has you covered.
Creations Shop Is One of EPCOT’s Biggest Shopping Stops
Across this same general area you’ll find Creations Shop, the major Disney merchandise store at EPCOT.
This place is huge.
If you want Mickey ears, apparel, Loungefly bags, EPCOT merchandise, character merchandise, or whatever Disney souvenir you suddenly decide you absolutely need after walking 20,000 steps in 90-degree heat, there’s a good chance you’ll find it here.
I don’t necessarily think Creations needs to be a destination unless shopping is an important part of your Disney vacation.
But if shopping is important to you, absolutely go inside.
It’s one of the easiest places in EPCOT to browse a large amount of Disney merchandise without hopping from store to store.
Pin Traders Is Worth a Stop for Disney Pin Fans
Nearby, you’ll also find Pin Traders, which is especially worth knowing about if your family collects Disney pins.
Pin trading is one of those Disney rabbit holes that can start innocently enough.
You buy one pin.
Then maybe a lanyard.
Then your child discovers limited editions.
And suddenly you have a retirement account invested in tiny pieces of enamel. 😂
Even if you’re not a serious collector, Pin Traders is fun to browse, and you’ll also find pin-trading opportunities throughout Disney World.
If you are a collector, though, this part of World Celebration is definitely worth checking.
You Have to Try Club Cool at Least Once
And then there is Club Cool.
I have an entire Club Cool guide because this experience deserves considerably more discussion than I’m going to give it here.
But the basic idea is wonderfully EPCOT.
Coca-Cola provides fountains where you can sample soft drinks from different countries around the world for free.
Some are delicious.
Some are interesting.
And then there is Beverly.
Beverly is an Italian bitter aperitif, and trying it has essentially become an EPCOT rite of passage.
I have photographic evidence of my own reaction.
It was not subtle. 😂
Club Cool is silly, free, air-conditioned, and takes very little time.
In other words, do it.
Even if you only go inside so every member of your family can try Beverly and make horrible faces at one another.
That’s quality family bonding right there.
Parents Should Know About the Playground and Splash Pad
Here’s another World Celebration feature that’s easy to overlook.
Near Creations Shop, you’ll find a small playground for kids, complete with seating for adults nearby.
And across the walkway is a splash pad.
If you’re visiting EPCOT with younger children, remember these exist.
EPCOT can be a lot for little kids. There are long walks, lines, restaurants, shows, and plenty of moments when adults are asking children to please stop touching their sibling and walk another quarter mile.
Sometimes the best thing you can possibly do is let them run around for 20 minutes.
The playground gives them that opportunity without requiring another queue or reservation.
And on a hot Florida afternoon, the splash pad can be even more appealing.
Of course, this comes with the same warning I give parents about Journey of Water:
If your child sees water, assumes this means FULL SEND, and has absolutely no interest in remaining dry, bring a change of clothes.
You know your kid. 😂
How Much Time Should You Spend in World Celebration?
This is a hard question to answer because I don’t think most people experience World Celebration as one big attraction.
You experience it in pieces throughout your EPCOT day.
You might ride Spaceship Earth in the morning, grab coffee at Connections Café later, meet Mickey in the afternoon, wander through CommuniCore Hall during a festival, let your kids play for a while, visit Club Cool, and then walk through the gardens again after dark.
That’s why I don’t think you need to block out something like “two hours for World Celebration.”
Instead, let World Celebration happen around the rest of your EPCOT plans.
Spaceship Earth deserves a deliberate spot in your itinerary. GEO-82 requires more planning if you want to visit. The Imagination Pavilion may warrant its own chunk of time.
Everything else fits beautifully into the spaces between your bigger EPCOT plans.
And I think that’s actually the secret to this neighborhood.
Is World Celebration at EPCOT Worth Exploring?
Absolutely—but perhaps not in the same way as World Nature or World Discovery.
World Celebration isn’t really about racing from one headliner to another.
It’s where EPCOT breathes.
It’s where you sit down. Eat. Shop. Meet Mickey. Listen to music. Try a disgusting soda. Let your kids play. Wander through festival displays. Charge your phone. Take yet another picture of Spaceship Earth.
And then come back at night and take another one.
I still think Disney could do more with parts of this neighborhood, particularly CommuniCore Hall. And I reserve the right to continue making fun of the fact that a significant portion of EPCOT’s multi-year transformation resulted in some extremely expensive shrubbery. 😂
But taken as a whole, World Celebration works better than I initially gave it credit for.
Because ultimately, this is the connective tissue of EPCOT.
World Nature may be the neighborhood that best captures EPCOT’s tradition of combining education and entertainment. World Discovery delivers some of its biggest thrills. World Showcase takes you around the globe.
But World Celebration is the heart of EPCOT itself.
And sitting right in the middle of it all is that giant golf ball.
Exactly where it belongs.
