Why the Five Gift Rule Might Be Perfect For Your Family
Have you ever heard of the Five Gift Rule? If not, here are some reasons why the Five Gift Rule might be perfect for your family!
As Thanksgiving comes to a close and the holiday season draws closer, it’s easy to skip over the gratitude and move onto the presents. However, the holiday season really is the perfect time to reflect and remember how grateful we are for all that we do have. This year, why not simplify Christmas by creating the Five Gift Rule in your house.
What is the Five Gift Rule?
The Five Gift Rule is very simple. Instead of spending a lot of money on gifts or trying to buy a bunch of presents to fill up space under the tree, we limit it to five things. Each item belongs to a category, to help make shopping easier.
The categories include:
- Something they want
- Something they need
- An experience (Something to do)
- Something to wear
- Something to read
This list could work for anyone on your list and give you some helpful insight into what those five gifts should be. Of course, you could change this list for what works best for your family, but these are the five gift categories we chose to do this year.
Why you should try the five gift rule
There are many benefits to doing the Five Gift Rule over just buying as many gifts as you want. Here are just some of those benefits:
Instead of focusing on presents, we can shift our focus toward the REAL meaning of Christmas
Christmas isn’t just about presents, and sometimes it’s hard to remember that. By eliminating excess presents, this holiday stops being about gifts and more about everything else!
Less shopping means more time with your loved ones
Spending all December in the stores means that you have little time to spend with your loved ones. This year, by implementing a Five Gift Rule, you can get your shopping done quickly so you can spend more time with the ones you love.
You can save money
Not buying as many gifts means not spending as much money! You can save up money for more holiday fun or just more money in your pocket by the end of the holiday season.
Your gifts will mean so much more
When there are fewer gifts, the gifts you do give mean so much more to the receiver! They will cherish those items you gave them because they are useful and things they need or want.
Christmas stops being stressful and complicated
By eliminating all of the excesses that Christmas can bring, you go back to the roots. Christmas stops being stressful or complicated and starts to be more enjoyable. You begin to enjoy the little parts of Christmas like decorating the tree or watching movies, instead of trying to sneak presents behind your kid’s back, so they don’t notice.
The Five Gift Rule is excellent for minimalist Christmas lovers or those looking to practice more gratitude this holiday season. I hope this list has inspired you to think about your own gift-giving this Christmas, and maybe give the Five Gift Rule a try!
