Katsura Grill Review: One of EPCOT’s Most Underrated Quick Service Restaurants

Wondering if Katsura Grill at EPCOT is worth it? Here’s my honest review, what I ordered, what I’d skip, and why this peaceful Japan Pavilion restaurant is worth a stop.
I really liked Katsura Grill.
Not in a “this was one of the best meals of my life” kind of way. Let’s not get carried away.
But as far as quick service meals at EPCOT go, this was a really solid option. And honestly, I think the location might be half the reason I liked it so much.

Katsura Grill Is Kind of Hidden
Katsura Grill is tucked back into the Japan Pavilion, up above the main walkway and surrounded by gardens, koi ponds, and water features.
It is so peaceful back there.
And that matters more than you might think.

EPCOT can be a lot. You are walking forever, World Showcase can get crowded, and there is food everywhere. So finding a quieter place where you can sit down, cool off, and eat something decent feels like a little victory.
There is indoor seating.
There is air conditioning.
And the whole area just feels calm.
Honestly, even before the food showed up, I already liked it.

What I Ordered at Katsura Grill
I ordered the Chicken Teriyaki Bowl.
And it was good.
I mean, it was standard chicken teriyaki. It was not trying to be fancy. It was not some mind-blowing culinary experience.
But the chicken was good quality, the rice was good, and it was exactly what I needed at the time.
I tend to look for meals that are a little more protein-forward, especially because I do not have a huge appetite and I feel much better if I eat something that will actually keep me going for a while.
This worked really well for that.
It was filling without being heavy, which is kind of ideal when you still have half of EPCOT left to walk.
They also have things like udon, miso soup, and other Japanese dishes, so you have a few options depending on what sounds good.

The Strawberry Bao Bun Was…Fine
I also tried the Strawberry Bao Bun.
It was okay.
That is really the best way to describe it.

I did not dislike it, but I would not order it again.
And honestly, the biggest problem is not even the bao bun itself.
The problem is that you are in EPCOT.

There are way too many amazing desserts nearby to waste stomach space on something that is merely okay.
You have kakigori right there in Japan. You have caramel treats in Germany. You have pastries and ice cream in France. Depending on the time of year.. or most times of the year, you probably also have fifteen festival desserts trying to get your attention.
So yeah.
I would get the Chicken Teriyaki Bowl again.
I would skip the bao bun.
Is Katsura Grill Worth It?
Yes.
In fact, if you’re looking for something besides burgers, pizza, or barbecue, I think Katsura Grill is one of the better quick service options in EPCOT.
One thing I really appreciate is that this meal didn’t leave me feeling stuffed.
That might sound like a weird compliment, but hear me out.
There is so much good food in EPCOT that I almost never want one meal to completely fill me up. I still want room for a snack in France…or caramel in Germany…or kakigori in Japan…or whatever festival booth catches my eye.
Katsura Grill hit that sweet spot where I felt satisfied, but I also didn’t feel like I needed to go sit on a bench for an hour afterward.

A Few Tips Before You Go
If you’re planning to eat here, here are a couple things I’d keep in mind.
Don’t just walk past it.
Because it’s tucked back into the Japan Pavilion, it’s surprisingly easy to miss. If you didn’t know it was there, you could walk through Japan and never even realize there’s a restaurant hidden behind the gardens.
Take a few extra minutes after you eat.
Seriously.
Don’t rush back out into World Showcase.
Walk around the koi ponds, enjoy the landscaping, and just soak in the atmosphere for a few minutes. It’s one of my favorite little quiet spots in EPCOT.
If you’re craving dessert…walk a few steps instead.
I’d skip the bao bun and head over to Kabuki Cafe for kakigori instead.
Or honestly…
Walk another pavilion or two.
This is EPCOT. There are incredible desserts everywhere.
Final Thoughts
I don’t think Katsura Grill is trying to be the most exciting quick service restaurant in EPCOT.
It’s just trying to serve a good meal in a really beautiful location.
And honestly?
I think it succeeds.
No, the Chicken Teriyaki Bowl isn’t something I’m going to spend the next six months dreaming about.
But would I order it again?
Absolutely.
It’s good food, it’s reasonably healthy, there’s plenty of protein, the dining room is air conditioned, and the setting is one of the most peaceful places in World Showcase.
Sometimes that’s exactly what I’m looking for.
If you’re anything like me and occasionally need a break from all the sweets EPCOT throws at you, Katsura Grill is a really solid choice.

I really enjoyed the Chicken Teriyaki Bowl. It was fresh, filling, and exactly the kind of meal I wanted before spending the rest of the afternoon walking around World Showcase.
Does Katsura Grill have indoor seating?
Yes! It has indoor, air-conditioned seating, which is always a welcome break on a hot Florida day.
Is the Strawberry Bao Bun worth it?
