Tent

One of the most important things that you’ll need to go camping is your tent. But how many tents you’ll need and what size will depend on how many people will be camping with you.

If you want to have a little more room, having a tent for kids and one for adults can be a good option. But, if you’re hoping to bond a little more as a family, and don’t mind being a little closer when you sleep, then stick to one larger tent.

This is a great 4-person tent! It sets up in 90 seconds!

Here is an option for a bigger family.. also very easy set up!

Sleeping Supplies

Once you have your tent picked out, you’ll need to put things inside your tent to make sleeping easier. There are also a few good alternatives if you want to sleep outside of your tent. These items can help make your camp sleeping more comfortable and a better overall experience.

Lighting

Lighting doesn’t just apply to the campsite. It is something you’ll need to wander the campgrounds at night, in case of an emergency, and to help you find your way around the tent in the wee hours of the night. To add some campsite lighting, I suggest grabbing some or all of these items:

Seating and Furniture

Some campsites will provide you with a picnic bench or some basic furniture to work with at the campsite, but don’t depend on these at every campsite you visit. You’ll need to have some furniture with you to help make sure you have a place to sit and eat your food.

Camping furniture and seating can include:

Tools and Repair Items

Remember that when you are camping, you probably won’t be able to just run to Walmart if you forget something, and if something like your tent breaks, you need a way to fix it while at your campsite. Park rangers can usually help provide you with duct tape supplies, but it’s better to bring your own supplies.

Some items you might want to bring with you include:

It might also be useful to have some tools such as a screwdriver or wrench handy just in case.

Some campsites will have a place to dispose of your garbage and bear lockers close by. But, if your campsite doesn’t always have these nearby, it’s good to bring your own storage supplies!

Clothing that’s great for camping

How you dress is just as important as what you decide to bring with you while camping. If you have all the supplies in the world to make camping fun, but your clothes are making you overheat, you’ll still have a bad time!

Make sure that you look for clothes that will do well with moisture and are lightweight for warm weather. It’s also essential to bring a jacket and some long sleeves to help with the sun, bugs, and cooler temperatures.

Ensure that you bring camping shoes and boots that can work well for rocky areas or muddy places. While flip flops might work well in your campsite, they won’t do well in the woods.

Make sure you also bring clothing for unexpected weather conditions. Clothing like rainwear, insulated jackets, fleece pants, gloves, hats, and bandanas can help make harsh weather more bearable.

While these are optional, it’s worth looking into swimwear, water sandals, and other footwear for your trip too!

Weather Gear

In addition to having the right clothes for bad weather, you need to make sure your campsite is prepared for unexpected or expected rain. While rain can be less than ideal while you’re camping, it doesn’t have to ruin your entire trip!

  • Bring along some plastic bags to keep your items dry from the water.
  • If you can, try to keep your tent in a high and dry place to avoid water rushing into your tent or flooding it.
  • Invest in a tarp to keep your tent mostly dry, but make sure that your tent.
