Christmas Tree Park Playground

christmas tree farm park

We almost missed this lovely playground. While eating ice cream at Hoffman’s Dairy, the family next to us kept talking about their favorite playground that was just 10 minutes away! I am soooo glad we ran into them! The Christmas Tree Park Playground is sprawling. It is hard to capture just how big it is because it includes at least four main playground areas plus swings!

The newest area is where we spent the most time. Here there are ziplines, chair ziplines, balance beams, multiple versions of roundabouts and see saws, climbing structures, a sound garden, and more! In the more traditional playground areas there are also plenty of slides. The playground and park are largely shaded (hence the name, Christmas Tree Park) and there is tons of space to run around.

Local youth sports teams will likely be playing on the soccer or baseballs fields, and there is even a sand volleyball court (which I suppose doubles as a giant sand box).

Plus– the entire park is shaded.

King Park

Right off the Main Street of Historical Westminster, Md lies the adorable King Park! Rarely ever busy this park will make you feel like you are far away from the hustle and bustle of busy Westminster. However, the nice part is you’re so close to so many shops and restaurants.

Watkins Park Playground

watkins park mount airy

Watkins Park in Mount Airy (not to be confused with the Watkins Regional Park in Upper Marlboro) is definitely a sleeper hit! This park is in Carroll County– but just barely. Mount Airy is actually in both Carroll and Frederick Counties.. and this park is on the Carroll County side!

There are two distinct playground areas. The older playground is near an entry point for the Old Main Line Mount Airy Rails to Trails. This playground is still really well maintained, with great slides and climbing structures for kids, as well as swings.

However, if you continue along the park road, you will be dazzled by the newer Watkins Play Place playground. This newer playground has it all. It’s a rather large playground but the play structures are spread out so you won’t feel crowded. There are boundless play features like an aero glider, ramps, and plenty of musical play features.

It has challenging climbing obstacle courses, slides for both older and younger kids, and fun swings like the saucer swing.

Bonus! Watkins Park is less than 10 minutes from Rock Hill Orchard and the Woodbourne Creamery!

There are public restrooms near the older playground and port-a-potties near the newer playground.

Westminster City Park Playground

westminster city park

The City of Westminster started upgrading the playground in late 2016 and it re-opened in early 2017. Someone on the planning committee must have had the ear of a bunch of kids, because this playground pretty much has everything!

A gigantic climbing structure greets visitors with a series of rope course like challenges, some of which lead to slides. There is a seated zipline (yes.. there is), tons of swings, smaller play structures for younger kids, balance pads, and a modern version of of spinning play apparatus where 5 or 6 kids can see how fast they can twirl before getting dizzy.

There is also a very large climbing knot that older kids love (not sure how to describe it other that a knot… there are other play structures like this around the region). The entire playground is shaded and very pleasant.

Address: 11 Longwell Avenue Westminster, MD 21157 (the directions say ‘behind’ this address. When you pull into the parking lot you will see the playground across a field. Turn left at the end of the parking lot and then take the next right to drive to the playground. Parking is either next to the playground on the road, or there is a one-way side street to the left of the playground entrance you can park on.)

There are public restrooms.

There is also a small path that circles the playground. This would be great for biking for young kids. At the entrance of the playground is also a Little Free library!

This playground is a lovely spot for a quick outing or a laid-back afternoon. There’s a pavilion with picnic tables, a paved walking trail with gorgeous views, and even a spot to fish (with a license). Portable restrooms are available—just note there are no sinks.

⚠️ The only downside? The playground backs up to Route 140. There’s a hill, guardrail, and trees for separation, but definitely keep a close eye on little ones near that edge.

Sandymount Park

This playground is located right next to Sandymount Elementary School and Finksburg library. Right next to the playground are four tables. Each table is covered which is great for the super sunny days. There is a large pavilion at the park as well but it is not directly next to the park.

The small tables are great for keeping your things next to the playground and for those kids that like to go back and forth from the table to the park. This park also has tennis courts and a basketball court. Surrounding the park is a really nice walking path. The path has an option to follow the shorter circle or walk around the entire park.

This park doesn’t tend to get too crowded. There is a possibility it would be more crowded directly after school since it is right next to the elementary school.

There is a porta potty at the park. The Finksburg library is also across the street so as long as you go during library hours this could be an option for the bathroom.

Baugher’s Appleman Playland

If you have visited Baugher’s Farm you may be familiar with the market place located at 289 W Main St. Westminster, MD 21158. At this location there is a market, restaurant and a playland. The market place has many of the same fruits, bake goods, décor and flowers you can find at the farm. The restaurant is a home-style family friendly restaurant. This is a great restaurant to bring kids to! If you are not looking to sit down and just want a quick treat the restaurant has ice cream right as you walk in the door.

We spent most of our time at the playland. This playland is a great place to visit on a hot day. The playland is mostly shaded by trees. It is also surrounded by a fence. But keep an eye on those little ones it is right next to the parking lot and even though there is a fence the road is right at the bottom of the hill. The playland has different types of swings, a tree house structure with a slide. There is also an old tractor the kids can climb on.

Over in the corner there is extra-large chair the kids will love climbing into! There are also large tires, a climbing structure, a tunnel and a large sign the kids can put pose as farmers for a picture. If you purchase food from the market or pack a lunch, there are many tables within the play area. This makes for an easy snack break or lunch!

Right outside the play area there is a snow ball stand. This is not owned by baughers. It is Snowball Chalet. It was not opened when we visited. The hours are 3pm till 8pm. If you visit when they are open this could make for a very easy snowball break as it is right next to the play land!

There is a porta potty right next to the play area. There are also restrooms inside the restaurant.

Deer Park

Deer Park is a wonderful park with many features. This park has a playground, ¾ mile story stroll, pond, tennis and basketball courts and many fields. The story stroll is mostly shaded and flat.

It is an easy walk for kids or pushing a stroller. It would also be a fun area to ride a bike. The story is fun to read while walking and at each station it gives the kids some type of movement to get to the next station. It’s a great way to keep the kids moving.

The pond area has picnic benches and is a great place to stop for lunch. It is a pretty calm pond but we were able to see frogs and fish. The kids had fun looking for them in the pond. Just be careful if you have an adventures little one new the water. It is shallow but could still be dangerous!

There are many parking lots thoughout the park. If you plan on going to the park and story stroll. Drive through the park until you see the park on your right and a pond on your left. There is a lot of parking here that is convenient to both the park, pond and story stroll.

There are public restrooms at the park.
