Prince George’s County is packed with fantastic places for kids to play—honestly, it might have the highest number of playgrounds per square mile in Maryland! While the county is well-known for its 25 Imagination Playgrounds, this post focuses on the best playgrounds in Prince George’s County outside of that popular series.

From colorful climbing structures and inclusive swings to epic slides and shady picnic areas, these parks are truly the best of the best. Whether you’re planning a weekend outing or just need a new spot to explore, you’ll find some awesome playground gems right here. Note: These are not the Imagination Playgrounds (and not the famous Wizard of Oz playground). They are under the radar playgrounds that you probably haven’t heard of, but absolutely would love!

Fox Run Community Park

Fox Run Community Park is really just a fantastic park tucked away in a sleepy neighborhood.

The park has rubberized surface and the most adorable fox and animal paintings on the playground surface. It’s really adorable.

There are super fun and separate play areas for younger and older kids. The younger area is engaging enough that they might not want to venture to the older kids area. But the older kids area has oodles of climbing features, slides, and more!

There is a small picnic pavilion but there are no swings.

There are port-a-potties in the parking lot.

Allen Pond Park

Allen Pond Park is a fantastic park in Bowie, MD. There are numerous picnic areas you can rent, two playgrounds with play features that would appeal to younger and older kids, and the pond itself. There is a lovely walking path around the pond and you can rent paddleboats or canoes to paddle around the pond.

Bowie Heritage Park

This park is so unique and fun.. it’s perfect for imaginative play! Located in Old Town Bowie, it’s right next to the train tracks and has an tiny town modeled after Bowie, with about 10-15 play structures like a school, court, church, and more. There are also swings, a great climbing structure, and other play features!

Horsepen Park

This is yet another great playground and park in Bowie that is fairly new (completed in Summer 2020). The park itself is great because it plugs into the Washington, Baltimore & Annapolis (WB&A) Trail, so you can bring your bikes or just walk!

You definitely want to bring your bikes though because the park has a bicycle practice and training courses, which includes a beginner level bicycle pump track, an intermediate level pump track, a bicycle skills area, and a bicycle repair station.

Finally, there is a really nice playground that has playground features for both younger and older kids, as well as a zipline, picnic pavilions, and more!

Somerset Neighborhood Park

This is a great playground and shaded park tucked away in a quiet neighborhood in Bowie. This playground would appeal to both younger and older kids. There are some really fun play features and the entire playground is shaded.

Bowie Community Center

The Bowie Community Center recently renovated their playground and it is really fantastic, especially for younger kids. There are loads of fun play features, climbing opportunities, slides, and more. Plus, it’s fenced in!

After you play, hop over to the shopping area where there are tons of kid friendly restaurants like Chick Fil A, Tropical Fruit Smoothie, MOD Pizza, and more!

Glenn Allen Park

In April 2023 the playground at Glen Allen Park was replaced with a new themed playground and the moat unique “57 Chevy” climbing structure has two slides and one is a large one.
We had such a fun time! I really like this park and great for the little ones. All Ages will def like the coolest car ever!

Whitemarsh Park

White Marsh Park

Whitemarsh Park is a sports lovers dream! It’s situated among a number of ball fields and there are excellent restroom facilities (and what appears to be a concession stand when open).

The playground itself is sports themed with play equipment in the shape of football, lacrosse, and other sports! Such a fun place to burn some energy.

38th Avenue Neighborhood Park

38th Avenue Park

This playground is large, gated, and very interactive! It has a soft surface and unique play features for climbing and more! There are swings and the playground is near the Anacostia Trail.

Cedar Heights Community Center

This is a really phenomenal playground. Both older and younger kids will love this playground, but younger kids will REALLY love this playground!

There are so many activity panels and musical play features.

There are great spinning play features, climbing opportunities galore, and more!

I really LOVE the nature playscape features too.

This playground is fenced in and has a rubberized playground floor.

There is plenty of parking and there are restrooms inside the community center.

Goodwin Park

Goodwin Park in Prince George’s County is a newly updated playground with vibrant play structures for both younger and older kids, plus extras like a jumping pad, swings, basketball courts, and a fenced-in dog park.

Families will appreciate the shaded pavilions, open field, and free parking, though there are currently no restrooms or port-a-potties on site. Conveniently located behind the Seat Pleasant Police Station, it’s a fun and safe spot for kids to play and explore.

J. Franklyn Bourne Memorial Swimming Pool- Playground

This community pool is open during the summer, but the playground is open year-round.

And it’s an awesome playground!

This is a beach-themed playground that is fully fenced in with rubberized play surface.

There are some really fun play features including a surfboard balance board, musical instrument play features, and more.

During the pool season you can use the restrooms in the pool building. Off season there are no restrooms or port-a-potties.

Westphalia Community Center/Parkour Playground

The playground at the Westphalia Community Center, also known as the Parkour Playground, is really fantastic! This is a sports themed playground with tons of obstacle course play features, including a track.

There are tons of slides, climbing features, swings, and more.

And there are separate areas for younger and older kids.

There is plenty of parking and public restrooms inside the community center when it’s open.

Tor Bryan Park

Tor Bryan Estates Park and Playground is really just a fantastic playground all around.

It is great for both younger kids and older kids up to about age 11 or 12. There are several benches around the perimeter of the playground and the playground surface is rubberized with bright and playful designs.

There’s some shade, a picnic shelter, grills, trash cans and recycling bins, and a basketball court.

This is a nice hidden neighborhood park that also has the Henson Creek Trail that goes through and is connected with the neighborhood.

There are no restrooms.

Captain’s Cove Neighborhood Park

Captain’s Cove Neighborhood Park was recently renovated and the new park is really fantastic.

It’s fenced in and there is a bike/walking path that runs through the park.

Note: The parking area is below the playground. You have to walk up a hill. It’s paved, but it is a hill.

The playground itself has engineered-wood-fiber surfacing and play structures that would delight both super young and older kids. There are swings for younger and older kids, as well as a swing for kids with disabilities.

Younger kids will love the climbing and nature play elements, as well as more challenging climbing structures and slides for older kids.

There are port-a-potties available seasonally.

The Station at Riverdale Park

This is a really fantastic playground in the middle of an urban shopping center.

The playground is fully fenced in and has climbing structures and slides that both younger and older kids would love.

There is also a splash fountain open seasonally from 9am-9pm.

Your kids will also love that the MARC train runs right by here so you can play and see the train!

Use the restrooms at Whole Foods.

Granville Gude Park

Granville Gude Park features “a lakehouse with a snackbar, two lakes, picnic pavilions, grills, picnic tables, horseshoe pits, state of the art playground, boat dock with paddle boat rentals, 1.25 miles of hiker/biker trails, open play areas and an outdoor stage.” (description courtesy of the website)

The playground is pretty great (and shaded) with playground features that would appeal to both younger and older kids.

There are public restrooms.

Kirkwood Neighborhood Park

This is a colorful new playground that was opened in 2021! It has separate areas for older and younger kids. There are oodles of climbing play features, swings, and more!

Shaded picnic tables are nearby but the playground itself is not very shaded. There are also paved walking paths next to this playground.

Kentland Community Center

The Kentland Community Center playground is themed to ‘Kids In Motion’ and it’s totally fantastic! There are musical play features, unique climbing structures, ride-on’s for younger kids, and more.

The playground has bright colors and rubberized surfaces, as well as swings. Plenty of parking and restrooms in the community center when it’s open.

Paint Branch- Stream Valley Park

This entire park is fantastic! Kids of all ages will love the playground. It has great climbing features for younger and older kids, as well as slides, ride-on’s, and swings. The park is also better known for the paved trails that run along the Paint Branch and connect to Lake Artemisia. 

There is plenty of parking. We didn’t see restrooms but there could be port-a-potties available seasonally.

Daisy Lane Neighborhood Park

Daisy Lane Park is a newly renovated playground in Prince George’s County that offers fun for kids of all ages and abilities. It features both large and small play structures, a variety of swings (including ADA-accessible options), a block climbing area, and interactive sound toys.

Families will love the picnic tables, small gazebo, and adorable kid-sized seats with cup holders—perfect for bringing lunch. There’s plenty of parking available, but no restrooms or port-a-potties on site.

Upper Marlboro Community Center

The playground at the Upper Marlboro Community Center is a really fantastic playground.

It is fenced in and has great play features for both younger and older kids.

There are excellent slides, activity panels, and climbing features. Plus there are swings for older kids, younger kids, and kids with accessibility needs.

There is plenty of parking and restrooms inside the community center when it’s open.

Peppermill Community Center

This playground is legit totally awesome.

There are so many unique play structures for both younger and older kids. And this playground is fenced in with rubberized surface.

This park features softball fields, basketball and tennis courts, picnic tables, and an enclosed playground with separate equipment for ages 2–5 and 5+. There’s plenty of parking, and restrooms are available inside the community center when open.

Rollins Avenue Park Playground

Rollins Avenue Park took a playground renovation in a completely different direction and it’s awesome! The entire playground is nature-themed and the play structures are centered around nature.

There are loads of climbing features for both younger and older kids.

This playground has swings for younger kids, older kids, and kids with accessibility needs.

There are port-a-potties open seasonally.

John Carroll Park

A super fun playground best suited for kids age 3/4 and older. Some of the most unique climbing play features of any park in Maryland.

There are also spinners, swings, and great slides. Plenty of parking but it doesn’t appear there are restrooms or port-a-potties.
