Tony’s Town Square Restaurant Review: A Surprisingly Great Disney Meal

Tony's Town Square Restaurant

Wondering if Tony’s Town Square Restaurant is worth it? Here’s my honest Magic Kingdom dining review, including the garlic bread, shrimp scampi, ambiance, and tips.

Estimated reading time: 10 minutes

For years, Tony’s Town Square Restaurant had a reputation as one of those Disney restaurants people mostly visited because of the location—not necessarily because of the food.

Apparently that’s changed.

Disney quietly revamped the menu a few years ago, and after finally trying it for myself, I completely understand why people have started recommending it again. I honestly had one of my favorite Italian meals at Walt Disney World here.

Now, I should probably start with a warning.

If you don’t like garlic…or especially if you have a garlic allergy…this may not be the restaurant for you.

The second I walked through the front door, I was hit with the smell of roasted garlic. Not just a hint of garlic—the entire restaurant smells like garlic. If you’ve ever driven through Gilroy, California (the Garlic Capital of the World), that’s honestly the closest comparison I can think of.

Personally?

I was in heaven.

I absolutely love garlic, so before I even sat down I had a feeling this meal was going to go well.

First Impressions & Atmosphere

Tony’s sits immediately inside the entrance to Magic Kingdom in Town Square, making it one of the easiest table service restaurants in the park to reach. It’s actually a really convenient choice if you’re planning to meet up with someone later or split up for a few hours.

That was exactly what happened during my visit.

My friend has a garlic sensitivity, so we decided to eat separately that evening. She headed to a Disney resort for dinner while I happily wandered into Tony’s to enjoy all the garlic she wanted absolutely nothing to do with.

The restaurant is inspired by Lady and the Tramp, specifically the famous restaurant where Lady and Tramp share their spaghetti dinner.

The references are subtle rather than over-the-top. You’ll find artwork from the movie throughout the dining room, a beautiful fountain featuring Lady and Tramp in the center of the restaurant, and little touches that Disney fans will appreciate without making the restaurant feel like character dining.

Overall, I’d call the atmosphere charming rather than immersive.

It’s bright, comfortable, and definitely feels like an old-fashioned Italian restaurant. It doesn’t have the “wow factor” of somewhere like Be Our Guest or Space 220, but it also isn’t trying to. It’s simply a pleasant place to sit down, cool off in the air conditioning, and enjoy a leisurely meal.

One thing I know people often ask about is the outdoor patio overlooking Main Street, U.S.A.

Yes, you can request patio seating, and some guests enjoy watching the parade from there. Personally, I opted for an indoor table because I was eating a hot pasta dinner in Florida, and air conditioning wins every time. Honestly, I also don’t think Tony’s offers the very best parade view anyway. I’d rather watch the parade from somewhere along the route and then come here afterward for dinner.

The Menu & Dining Experience

This is one of those menus where I had a surprisingly difficult time deciding what to order because several things sounded really good.

Tony’s leans into classic Italian comfort food—pastas, seafood, chicken, steaks, salads, and plenty of garlic. Lots and lots of garlic.

You’ll also find a kids’ menu, plant-based options, and enough variety that most people should be able to find something they’ll enjoy.

Tony’s Garlic Bread (Don’t Skip This)

I started with Tony’s Garlic Bread for the Table.

Technically, this is meant to be shared.

I was dining solo.

Did that stop me?

Absolutely not.

The bread arrives as thick slices of toasted ciabatta with roasted garlic butter already worked into every bite. It’s crispy around the edges, soft and chewy inside, and honestly delicious all by itself.

Then comes the fun part.

You’re handed a small pitcher of warm Parmesan fonduta that you pour right over the top.

I know “cheese sauce” doesn’t sound particularly elegant, but trust me—it works. The creamy Parmesan fonduta melts into every nook and cranny of the bread and turns an already excellent appetizer into something completely over-the-top.

Was it ridiculously rich?

Absolutely.

Did I regret ordering it?

Not even a little.

I obviously couldn’t finish the entire loaf by myself, but I made a respectable dent in it before my entrée arrived.

If you’re visiting with two to four people, I think this is one of the best appetizers on the menu.

Shrimp Scampi

When it came time for my entrée, I asked my server for a recommendation.

He pointed me toward the Shrimp Scampi, and I’m really glad I listened.

This wasn’t one of those heavy Alfredo-style pasta dishes that leaves you wanting to take a nap afterward. Instead, it was buttery, bright, and packed with garlic without feeling greasy.

The shrimp were perfectly cooked, the pasta had just enough sauce to coat every bite, and the fresh arugula and tomatoes on top kept everything from feeling too rich.

It’s still pasta, so I wouldn’t exactly call it a light meal.

But compared to a lot of Italian entrées, it felt balanced and surprisingly fresh.

I would order it again without hesitation.

Cannoli

Normally, cannoli isn’t my first choice for dessert.

Sometimes the filling can be overly sweet or have a texture that just doesn’t do much for me.

This one completely changed my mind.

The shell stayed crisp, the ricotta filling was creamy without being heavy, and the sweetness was just enough without crossing into sugar overload.

By the end of the meal, I honestly couldn’t think of a single thing I regretted ordering.

That’s pretty rare.

Service & Pace

Since I was dining by myself, I wasn’t looking for a long, drawn-out dinner, and thankfully that’s not what I got.

My server was friendly, knowledgeable, and steered me toward one of my favorite dishes of the evening. Everything arrived at a comfortable pace, giving me enough time to enjoy each course without feeling rushed.

Even dining alone never felt awkward. Disney servers are usually great about that, and this experience was no exception.

Cost & Value

Tony’s isn’t inexpensive—it’s still a Disney table service restaurant—but I walked away feeling like I received good value for what I paid.

Every course was well prepared, the portions were generous, and unlike a few Disney restaurants I’ve visited over the years, I never felt like I was paying primarily for the location.

I was paying for genuinely good food.

That’s a big difference.

If you’ve avoided Tony’s because of its older reputation, I honestly think it’s worth giving another chance. The updated menu has completely changed my opinion of the restaurant, and I’d happily eat here again on a future Magic Kingdom day.

Final Verdict

Food: ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆ (4/5)

Atmosphere: ⭐⭐⭐½☆ (3.5/5)

Tony’s Town Square ended up being one of the biggest surprises of my Disney dining trip.

No, it isn’t the most elaborately themed restaurant in Magic Kingdom. If you’re looking for immersive Disney storytelling, there are stronger choices.

But if you’re craving comforting Italian food, love garlic as much as I do, and want a relaxing sit-down meal right inside the park entrance, Tony’s is an easy recommendation.

My biggest tip?

Order the garlic bread.

Seriously.

Even if you’re trying to save room for your entrée, it’s worth it.

And if you’re a fellow garlic fanatic, you may just leave wondering why it took you so long to finally give Tony’s a chance.
