Pongu Pongu Review: Is Pandora’s Snack Stand Worth It?

Pongu Pongu Review

Is Pongu Pongu worth visiting in Pandora at Disney’s Animal Kingdom? Here’s my review of the Night Blossom, Pongu Lumpia, breakfast, and whether this popular snack stand deserves a stop.

Estimated reading time: 6 minutes

If you’re spending any amount of time in Pandora – The World of Avatar, chances are you’ll walk right past Pongu Pongu.

And honestly, I think you should stop.

This tiny walk-up stand has become one of my favorite snack stops in Animal Kingdom. The menu isn’t huge, but almost everything I’ve tried here has been worth ordering.

Between the famous Night Blossom, the surprisingly delicious Pongu Lumpia, and even the oversized breakfast cinnamon roll, Pongu Pongu has something for just about every time of day.

If you’re trying to decide whether it’s worth making a stop, here’s what I thought after trying several of its most popular menu items.

Atmosphere

Pongu Pongu fits perfectly into Pandora.

The entire stand looks like it was pieced together from recycled parts and leftover equipment, which fits the story that humans repurposed old RDA structures after leaving Pandora. There are pipes, gears, scrap metal, and all kinds of little details hanging from the roof that make it fun to look around while you’re waiting.

Even if you’re not ordering anything, it’s worth taking a minute to appreciate all the Imagineering that went into this little snack stand.

One other thing I like is the location.

It’s just steps from Avatar Flight of Passage and Na’vi River Journey, making it an easy stop whether you’re rope dropping Pandora or looking for a snack after riding.

If you’re ready for something more substantial after your snack, don’t miss Satu’li Canteen. It’s one of my favorite quick service restaurants at Walt Disney World, and it’s home to my favorite meal in Animal Kingdom.

What I Ordered

Night Blossom ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆

If you’ve ever seen pictures of Pandora, you’ve probably seen the Night Blossom.

Pongu Pongu Review

It’s one of the most colorful drinks at Walt Disney World, with layers of frozen limeade, apple, and pear flavors topped with little passion fruit boba.

I’ll admit…

I’m usually not someone who orders frozen specialty drinks.

But I really enjoyed this one.

It’s fruity, refreshing, and not nearly as sweet as I expected. On a hot Florida afternoon, it was exactly what I wanted.

I probably wouldn’t make a special trip across the park just for it, but if I’m already in Pandora, it’s an easy order.

Looking for something sweet elsewhere in the park? Be sure to stop by Tamu Tamu Refreshments, where you’ll find my favorite dessert in Animal Kingdom: the incredible Pineapple Crisp Sundae.

Pongu Lumpia ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆

This one surprised me.

The Pongu Lumpia is basically a warm spring roll filled with pineapple and cream cheese.

I know.

That sounds a little strange.

But somehow it works.

The crispy shell gives way to warm pineapple filling with just enough cream cheese to balance the sweetness. It’s portable, easy to eat while walking, and unlike just about anything else you’ll find in Animal Kingdom.

It’s become one of Pandora’s signature snacks for good reason.

Colossal Cinnamon Roll ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆

I grabbed this for breakfast one morning, and it was much better than I expected.

First of all…

It’s huge.

The cinnamon roll is soft, fresh, generously frosted, and easily big enough to share if you aren’t especially hungry.

Is it the most unique breakfast in Animal Kingdom?

No.

But if you’re looking for something quick before or after riding Flight of Passage, it definitely gets the job done.

Breakfast at Pongu Pongu

One thing I really appreciate about Animal Kingdom is that several of the snack stands quietly serve breakfast.

They’re easy to overlook because most people think of them as snack locations later in the day.

If you’re rope dropping Pandora, grabbing breakfast here afterward makes a lot of sense. You can knock out Flight of Passage and Na’vi River Journey early, then sit down with a cinnamon roll while the rest of the park starts to wake up.

Sometimes the best touring plans are the simple ones.

Is Pongu Pongu Worth It?

Absolutely.

I don’t know that I’d recommend making a special trip across Animal Kingdom just for Pongu Pongu.

But if you’re already spending time in Pandora—and let’s be honest, most people are—it’s an easy stop.

The Night Blossom is refreshing.

The Pongu Lumpia is unique.

And the breakfast options make it worth remembering even before lunchtime.

That’s a pretty solid combination for such a small snack stand.

If you’re still hungry after exploring Pandora, make your way over to Eight Spoon Café. Their baked mac and cheese with pulled pork is one of my favorite savory snacks in Animal Kingdom and is easily filling enough to count as lunch.

Final Thoughts

Pongu Pongu may not have a huge menu, but I think it does exactly what a great Disney snack stand should do.

Everything feels just a little different from what you’ll find elsewhere in the parks, which fits Pandora perfectly.

Whether you’re cooling off with a Night Blossom, trying the famous Pongu Lumpia, or grabbing a cinnamon roll before tackling the rest of your day, it’s one of those places that’s easy to work into almost any Animal Kingdom itinerary.

If you’re visiting Pandora anyway—and you probably are—I wouldn’t skip it.
