Mexico Pavilion at EPCOT: Everything You Need to See, Eat, and Do
Explore the Mexico Pavilion at EPCOT, including Gran Fiesta Tour, Donald Duck, restaurants, shopping, live entertainment, and things you shouldn’t miss.

I am going to say this right up front: do not walk past the Mexico Pavilion at EPCOT.
And I know that sounds kind of silly because there is a giant pyramid sitting right there. It’s not exactly hidden.
But I think Mexico is one of those World Showcase pavilions where it would be really easy to ride the Gran Fiesta Tour, maybe grab a margarita, and then move on to Norway without realizing how much is actually here.
There is a lot.
You have a ride, a character meet and greet, fantastic live entertainment, two table service restaurants, a quick service restaurant, multiple places to grab a margarita, quite a bit of shopping, and some really cool cultural displays.
And then there is just the pavilion itself.
Because once you walk inside that pyramid, the entire feel changes. You are suddenly wandering through what feels like an outdoor Mexican marketplace at night.
Except you are actually inside. In air conditioning.
Which, depending on when you visit EPCOT, might be reason enough to spend some time here. Ha!
Where Is the Mexico Pavilion at EPCOT?
Mexico is one of the first countries you will come to in World Showcase if you start on that side of the lagoon.
It sits right next to Norway, and the enormous pyramid makes this one of the easiest World Showcase pavilions to spot.
And honestly, I think the pyramid is part of the fun.
You look at it from outside and really have no idea how much Disney managed to cram inside that building.
Definitely Go Inside the Mexico Pavilion
Even if you don’t want to ride Gran Fiesta Tour. Even if you aren’t eating at San Angel Inn. Even if you don’t drink margaritas.
Go inside.
This is one of the coolest pavilion interiors in World Showcase.
Once you enter the pyramid, it feels like nighttime. There are little buildings and shops, lanterns, colorful decorations hanging overhead, and a marketplace in the middle of everything.
It really does have the feeling of walking around an open-air market after dark.
I love it.
And there is something else I love about it that has absolutely nothing to do with theming.
It is cool in there.
EPCOT can get brutally hot, particularly when you’re walking around World Showcase in the middle of the afternoon. The Mexico Pavilion gives you an actual break from that because so much of the pavilion is inside.
This is also a pretty fantastic place to duck into if one of those lovely Florida afternoon rainstorms decides to show up.
But don’t just use it for air conditioning. There is a lot to look at while you’re in there.
Take Some Time to Explore the Mexican Marketplace
One of the biggest mistakes you can make in World Showcase is treating every pavilion like a checklist.
Ride? Check.
Character? Check.
Food? Check.
Next country.
Mexico is a really good example of why I don’t think you should do that.
The marketplace inside the pavilion is something you should actually wander through for a little while. There are shops and smaller vendors tucked throughout the area, with Mexican-inspired souvenirs, jewelry, clothing, artwork, glassware, Disney merchandise, and all kinds of other things.
And even if you aren’t particularly interested in shopping, walk around anyway.
Look up.
Look at the little storefronts. Look at the decorations. Take in the fact that you are standing inside a theme park building in Florida and Disney has somehow convinced your brain that you’re walking through a marketplace at night.
This is the kind of stuff I love about World Showcase.
Don’t Miss the Día de Muertos Exhibit
There is also a really cool Día de Muertos exhibit inside the Mexico Pavilion.
Día de Muertos is, of course, the Mexican holiday that inspired Coco, so kids who love that movie will probably recognize some of the imagery immediately.
I’ve stopped to look at this exhibit before, and there are some really beautiful pieces in it. You don’t need to spend a ton of time here, but don’t just walk straight past it on your way into the marketplace.
This is another one of those little World Showcase experiences that can get lost when everyone is focused on rides and food.
And World Showcase has a lot of them.
Part of the reason I wanted to write individual guides to all 11 pavilions is because there is so much tucked into these countries that doesn’t necessarily fit neatly into a ride review or restaurant review.
This is a perfect example.
Gran Fiesta Tour Starring The Three Caballeros
Of course, the main attraction in the Mexico Pavilion is the Gran Fiesta Tour Starring The Three Caballeros.
And I really like this ride.
Is it one of the big EPCOT rides that you need to plan your entire morning around?
No.
But that is actually part of what makes it so great.
Gran Fiesta Tour is a cute little boat ride featuring Donald Duck, José Carioca, and Panchito Pistoles. José and Panchito are trying to find Donald before they’re supposed to perform together, and Donald is basically off being Donald.
It is colorful and fun and completely family-friendly.
It is also indoors and air-conditioned, which once again becomes a very important feature of the Mexico Pavilion in August. Ha!
The ride entrance is toward the back of the pavilion, so you actually have to walk through the indoor marketplace to get to it.
And unless the line is unusually long, I would absolutely ride it while you’re here.
There are plenty of attractions at EPCOT where I am going to tell you that you need a Lightning Lane strategy or that you need to think carefully about when you ride.
Gran Fiesta Tour is not one of them.
This is much more of a “Hey, we’re in Mexico. Let’s go ride the Three Caballeros!” kind of attraction.
And sometimes those are exactly the rides you need in the middle of an EPCOT day.
Meet Donald Duck in His Mexico Outfit
You can also meet Donald Duck outside the Mexico Pavilion, and this is one of my favorite versions of Donald.
First of all, I just love Donald.
He is such a fun character to meet because he has a ton of personality.
But I especially love when Disney puts characters in outfits that actually make sense for where you’re meeting them, and Donald’s Mexico outfit is fantastic.
It also ties perfectly into the Gran Fiesta Tour.
So you can literally ride around Mexico with Donald and the other Three Caballeros and then walk outside and meet Donald himself.
If you’re trying to meet characters at EPCOT, I would absolutely put this one on your list.

Stop for Mariachi Cobre
Okay. This is one that I really don’t want you to miss if they’re performing while you’re in the area.
Mariachi Cobre is fantastic.
They perform outside the Mexico Pavilion along World Showcase Lagoon, and if you happen to hear them while you’re walking by, stop.
Seriously.
You do not have to stand there for the entire performance if you’re trying to get somewhere. But this is one of those things that adds so much to the atmosphere of World Showcase.
I’ve stopped to listen to them multiple times, and they are just so good.
I’ve also seen other musicians performing in this same area. On one visit there was a marimba performer instead, so you may find something different happening depending on the day and time you visit.
This is why I always recommend checking the entertainment schedule in the My Disney Experience app.
And I know. You’ve got Lightning Lanes. You’ve got dining reservations. You’ve got Frozen Ever After sitting right next door. There is always somewhere else you’re supposed to be at Disney World.
But sometimes you are walking around World Showcase and a mariachi band starts playing.
Stop.
Listen for a few minutes.
That’s part of EPCOT too.
Where to Eat in the Mexico Pavilion
If you are hungry, Mexico is a pretty great place to find yourself.
Actually, even if you aren’t hungry, you may suddenly become hungry once you start looking at all the options. Ha!
There is a surprising amount of food packed into this relatively small pavilion. Mexico has two table service restaurants, a quick service restaurant, a tequila lounge, and a margarita stand.
And I’ve eaten at all three of the main restaurants. The annoying part is that I have a really hard time telling you which table service restaurant I like better.
They are both really good. They’re just good for completely different reasons.
San Angel Inn Restaurante
San Angel Inn is the table service restaurant inside the Mexico Pavilion.
And when I say inside, I mean inside.
The restaurant sits along the water next to the Gran Fiesta Tour, with the pyramid and volcano scenery in the distance. The entire restaurant is permanently “outside at night,” just like the rest of the pavilion.
The atmosphere is fantastic.
It is dark. Like, legitimately dark. You may find yourself pulling out your phone flashlight to read the menu. But that darkness is also what makes the restaurant feel so immersive.
I’ve eaten here and really enjoyed it, and I think this is one of those Disney restaurants where the setting is a huge part of the reason to book it.
You are not simply sitting inside a restaurant at EPCOT. You are eating dinner next to the water under a nighttime sky while boats from Gran Fiesta Tour float past.
That’s pretty cool.

For purposes of deciding where to eat in Mexico: if atmosphere is really important to you, San Angel Inn is a strong contender.
La Hacienda de San Angel
Then you have La Hacienda de San Angel, which is outside the pyramid and right along World Showcase Lagoon.
And this restaurant has its own pretty spectacular trick.
If you time dinner correctly, you can potentially watch EPCOT’s nighttime fireworks while you eat.
We did.
That was pretty fantastic.
Obviously, I would never promise that you’re going to get the perfect window table at exactly the right time. There are too many variables involved for that.
But the location itself is beautiful, and being right on World Showcase Lagoon gives La Hacienda a completely different atmosphere from San Angel Inn.
This is why I have such a hard time choosing between them.
San Angel Inn gives you that really immersive nighttime-Mexico atmosphere inside the pyramid.
La Hacienda gives you the waterfront location and the possibility of watching Luminous: The Symphony of Us during dinner.
Can I pick both?
I think I’m picking both. 😂
La Cantina de San Angel
Right next door is La Cantina de San Angel, Mexico’s quick service restaurant.
And once again: waterfront.
This is one of the things I really like about this little section of the Mexico Pavilion. La Hacienda and La Cantina both sit along World Showcase Lagoon, so you can grab something to eat without disappearing completely from the atmosphere of World Showcase.
La Cantina is the much more casual option, and it’s a good one to keep in mind if you want Mexican food but don’t want to devote the time or money to a table service meal.

La Cava del Tequila
Inside the pyramid you’ll also find La Cava del Tequila.
This place is extremely popular.
And I will also tell you that I have never been there.
I’m just not a big drinker, so spending my EPCOT time sampling tequila isn’t particularly high on my personal priority list. But if margaritas and tequila are your thing, La Cava is absolutely one of the places in World Showcase you should know about.
It’s a small tequila lounge tucked inside the pavilion with a huge tequila selection, specialty margaritas, and some light bites.
One thing worth knowing is that La Cava itself isn’t a traditional Disney table service restaurant where you make a normal dining reservation. There are separate tequila experiences that may be reservable, but you don’t need a regular dining reservation simply to visit the lounge.
And because it is popular—and small—you may encounter a wait.
Choza de Margarita
If you don’t want to head inside the pyramid for a margarita, there is another option outside.
Choza de Margarita is the walk-up margarita stand near the Mexico Pavilion.
I haven’t personally ordered anything here either, for exactly the same reason I haven’t been to La Cava. But this one is extremely easy to spot, and it is a much simpler option if your goal is basically:
I am walking around World Showcase and would now like a margarita.
Done. 😂
They also sell some food, so it isn’t strictly a drink stand.
Basically, if eating and drinking your way around World Showcase is part of your EPCOT plan, Mexico gives you plenty to work with.
Shopping in the Mexico Pavilion
Do not save Mexico’s shopping for the final five minutes before you need to leave the park.
Especially if you want a ring.
Yes. A ring.
There is a Ring Carvers kiosk at the Mexico Pavilion where you can have a ring personalized while you’re there. I’ve seen the artist working on them, and it’s one of those really fun souvenirs that feels considerably more interesting than grabbing another Disney T-shirt.
Just remember that something custom takes time.
So if you want one, stop earlier in your EPCOT day rather than wandering over right before park close and expecting someone to magically carve a ring in three minutes.
There is also quite a bit of shopping inside the pyramid.
And honestly, even people who don’t normally care that much about Disney shopping should take a look around here because the shopping is incorporated into that nighttime marketplace setting.
You’ll find Mexican-inspired gifts, jewelry, clothing, artwork, decorative pieces, glassware, Disney merchandise, and other souvenirs throughout the marketplace.
This is another place where I’m not going to give you an inventory of every shelf in every shop. Merchandise changes.
The point is that shopping is actually part of the Mexico Pavilion experience, not simply a gift shop you have to walk through after a ride.
Browse for a few minutes.
You might find something considerably more interesting than another pair of Mickey ears.
Kidcot Fun Stop in Mexico
If you’re visiting EPCOT with younger kids, keep an eye out for the Mexico Kidcot Fun Stop too.
Kidcot is one of those World Showcase activities that can be really fun for kids who aren’t quite as fascinated by architecture, restaurants, and cultural exhibits as their parents might be.
Kids can stop at the different World Showcase pavilions as they make their way around the lagoon and collect the pavilion-specific activity pieces.
I’ve done Kidcot in Mexico before, although Disney can move the exact location around within a pavilion. So if you don’t see it where you expect it to be, check the My Disney Experience app or ask a Cast Member.
And this is another reason World Showcase can work surprisingly well with younger kids.
There may not be a ride in every country, but Disney has sprinkled little things throughout the pavilions that give kids something to look for and do.
How Much Time Do You Need in the Mexico Pavilion?
This is kind of a tricky question because you could spend 20 minutes in Mexico.
Or you could spend two hours.
You could walk inside, ride Gran Fiesta Tour, take a quick look around, and head straight into Norway.
There is nothing wrong with that, particularly if you only have one EPCOT day and you’re trying to accomplish a lot.
But if this is your first visit, I would give Mexico more time than that.
Ride Gran Fiesta Tour. Wander through the marketplace. Look at the Día de Muertos exhibit. See if Donald is meeting. Check whether Mariachi Cobre is performing. Browse the shops.
And if you’re eating a meal here, obviously you’re going to spend considerably longer.
I also think Mexico works really well as one of those pavilions you can visit in pieces.
Maybe you stop for Mariachi Cobre in the afternoon, come back for dinner later, and ride Gran Fiesta Tour after you’ve eaten.
You don’t have to “finish Mexico” before you’re allowed to move on.
What Should You Absolutely Not Miss in Mexico?
If I had to narrow the entire pavilion down to just a few things, I would make sure you:
- Go inside the pyramid. Even if you do nothing else inside.
- Ride Gran Fiesta Tour if the wait is reasonable.
- Stop for Mariachi Cobre if they’re performing.
- Take a few minutes to actually look around instead of treating Mexico as a walkway between the front of World Showcase and Norway.
- And if you’re looking for a table service meal, both San Angel Inn and La Hacienda de San Angel are worth considering.
But really, the biggest one is the first.
Go inside.
I think people sometimes look at the giant pyramid and assume that it’s mostly just the building housing the ride and restaurant.
It isn’t.
There is an entire little world in there.
Is the Mexico Pavilion Worth Visiting?
Absolutely.
Mexico is actually one of the more substantial World Showcase pavilions.
You have an attraction. You have a character. You have live entertainment. You have multiple restaurants. You have shopping. You have a cultural exhibit. And you have one of the most immersive indoor spaces in EPCOT.
It is also one of those rare places where you can get out of the heat without feeling like you’ve stopped touring the park.
And that’s really what I like about Mexico.
You don’t have to do everything.
Maybe you’re here for Donald. Maybe you’re here because you love the Three Caballeros. Maybe you’re having dinner at San Angel Inn. Maybe you heard Mariachi Cobre playing and decided to stop.
Or maybe it is 97 degrees outside and you walked into the pyramid because you desperately needed air conditioning.
Whatever gets you through the door. 😂
Just don’t walk straight back out.
Give Mexico a little time.
There is a lot more hiding inside that pyramid than you might think.
Visiting Mexico During an EPCOT Festival?
