After several days of driving Utah’s Mighty 5 route, Moab felt like hitting the restaurant jackpot.
Seriously.
By the time we arrived, we’d already eaten our way through Springdale, Bryce Canyon City, and Torrey. While there are certainly good restaurants in those towns, dining options can feel somewhat limited.
Moab is different.
Moab is a real adventure hub. People come here to explore Arches National Park, Canyonlands National Park, Dead Horse Point State Park, and dozens of off-road trails. That means the town has developed an impressive food scene to keep all those hungry visitors fed.
Whether you’re looking for a giant breakfast before sunrise in Arches, a quick lunch between adventures, or a memorable dinner after a long day on the trails, you’ll find plenty of great options here.
These are the restaurants we personally tried during our visit, along with several other Moab favorites that consistently show up on local recommendation lists.
And after spending nearly two weeks driving through southern Utah, I put together a complete guide to where to eat on a Utah Mighty 5 road trip, including our favorite restaurants near Zion, Bryce Canyon, Capitol Reef, Arches, and Canyonlands National Parks.

For breakfast, I’d choose either Cactus Jack’s if you want a big sit-down meal or Doughbird if you’re trying to get into the park early and just need coffee and a quick breakfast.
For lunch, Moab Diner is an easy choice thanks to its huge menu and generous portions.
For dinner, the Moab Food Truck Park is hard to beat if you’re traveling with family members who all want something different.
And if you’re celebrating a special occasion, Desert Bistro is probably the most memorable dinner in town.

Where to Eat Near Canyonlands National Park
Canyonlands National Park sits farther from town than many first-time visitors expect, so I recommend eating before you head out for the day.
A hearty breakfast at Cactus Jack’s or Jailhouse Cafe will keep you going through a morning of viewpoints and sightseeing.
When you return to town, Moab Brewery, Antica Forma, and Miguel’s Baja Grill are all excellent options for dinner.
If you’re short on time, my guide to visiting Canyonlands National Park in 2–3 hours shows you how to see the park’s most spectacular overlooks without spending an entire day there.
Cactus Jack’s: Our Favorite Breakfast in Moab

If you’re planning an early morning in Arches National Park, eat here first.
This was easily our favorite breakfast of the trip.
One thing you’ll notice pretty quickly in Moab is that many visitors are heading into the parks early. Parking lots fill up fast in Arches, temperatures rise quickly in summer, and photographers are chasing sunrise. A substantial breakfast isn’t optional—it’s fuel.
I ordered the veggie omelet loaded with vegetables and topped with fresh avocado.
It was fantastic.

The eggs were fluffy, the vegetables were fresh, and the portion size was large enough that I honestly didn’t need lunch until much later in the day.
The hash browns deserve special mention. Crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and exactly what hash browns should be.
The surprise star of breakfast was actually my daughter.
For reasons known only to growing teenagers, she decided she needed a breakfast steak. Not only did she order it, but she completely demolished it while the rest of us were still eating.
My husband, meanwhile, continued his lifelong quest for the perfect sausage patty. He was quite happy with what arrived on his plate.
The portions here are generous, the service is fast, and the food sticks with you. That’s exactly what you want before spending six or eight hours exploring national parks.
Why We Loved It
- Huge portions
- Excellent omelets
- Crispy hash browns
- Family-friendly atmosphere
- Great fuel before a day in Arches

Many visitors are surprised by how much of Arches you can experience without tackling difficult hikes. Be sure to read my guide to Arches National Park for casual visitors, which focuses on scenic viewpoints, easy walks, and the park’s most accessible highlights.
Moab Diner: Classic Comfort Food Done Right
Every tourist town needs a dependable diner.
Moab has one.
And honestly? We ended up eating here more than once.
The menu is enormous. Burgers, sandwiches, breakfast platters, comfort food classics, milkshakes, desserts—if someone in your family wants it, chances are it’s on the menu.

For me, the hot roast beef sandwich was the clear winner.
I have absolutely no self-control when I see hot roast beef covered in brown gravy.
It’s one of those meals that instantly reminds me of family dinners growing up. The tender beef, thick gravy, buttery mashed potatoes—it checks every comfort food box imaginable.

This version was exactly what I hoped it would be.
Meanwhile, my daughter ordered mac and cheese and mashed potatoes with gravy.
Not as side dishes.
As her meal.
Honestly, I respect the commitment.
And then there were the milkshakes.
The chocolate milkshake was enormous. Thick, rich, and absolutely worth every calorie.
After a full day of hiking viewpoints in Arches and Canyonlands, this is exactly the sort of place that hits the spot.

Trying to maximize your time? My 1–2 day Arches National Park itinerary covers exactly how I’d spend one or two days exploring the park, including viewpoints, short hikes, and timing recommendations.
Why We Loved It
- Huge menu
- Great comfort food
- Excellent milkshakes
- Good for picky eaters
- Reasonable prices for Moab
Moab Food Truck Park: One of the Most Fun Places to Eat in Town
Some restaurants are memorable because of the food.
Others are memorable because of the experience.
The Moab Food Truck Park manages to do both.
This was one of our favorite stops during the entire trip.

The concept is simple. Multiple food trucks surround a large communal seating area covered by colorful shade sails. Everyone can order from whichever truck looks good and then meet back at the tables.
For families, that’s a huge advantage.
Nobody has to compromise.
I ordered a gyro wrap loaded with fresh vegetables and served with some of the best tzatziki sauce I’ve had in a long time.

The wrap was fresh, flavorful, and surprisingly large.
My husband went in a completely different direction and ordered a gigantic club sandwich from another truck. The thing was stacked so high with meat that it looked like it belonged in a food challenge.

My daughter?
She skipped directly to boba.
Because she is thirteen.
After lunch, I wandered over to the gelato truck and ordered white chocolate raspberry gelato.
I should have ordered a larger size.
That’s really the only mistake I made.
The whole place has a fun, laid-back vibe that feels perfectly suited to Moab. It’s casual, colorful, and exactly the kind of place you want to relax after a morning of sightseeing.

During our visit, we stayed at the SpringHill Suites Moab, one of the most convenient hotels for visiting both Arches and Canyonlands National Parks.
Why We Loved It
- Everyone can choose something different
- Fun atmosphere
- Plenty of seating
- Excellent desserts
- Great option for families
Moab Brewery
If you only have one dinner in Moab, this is probably the safest recommendation.
Moab Brewery is one of the most popular restaurants in town and consistently draws both visitors and locals.
The menu focuses on burgers, sandwiches, steaks, salads, and hearty comfort food. Portions are generous and the atmosphere is relaxed.
Expect a wait during peak season.
Antica Forma
Many visitors consider Antica Forma the best pizza restaurant in Moab.
Their wood-fired pizzas have developed a loyal following, and after several days of hiking and sightseeing, pizza can sound pretty wonderful.
The outdoor patio is particularly popular during pleasant spring and fall evenings.
Desert Bistro
If you’re looking for a special dinner, Desert Bistro is probably the top choice in Moab.
This is where I’d go for an anniversary, birthday, or celebration meal.
The menu focuses on elevated Southwestern cuisine and regularly appears on lists of the best restaurants in Utah.
Reservations are strongly recommended.
Quesadilla Mobilla
This colorful food truck has become something of a Moab institution.
Their creative quesadillas are frequently recommended by both locals and repeat visitors.
If you enjoy food trucks and want something uniquely Moab, this should be on your list.
Doughbird: Home of Moab’s Famous Square Donuts
If you’re looking for a quick breakfast before entering Arches National Park, Doughbird is one of the most popular stops in town.
They’re best known for their square donuts, which have developed something of a cult following among visitors. They’re light, flaky, buttery, and honestly somewhere between a donut and a croissant.
In addition to pastries, Doughbird serves breakfast sandwiches, coffee drinks, and other grab-and-go breakfast options.
This is the place I’d recommend for photographers trying to catch sunrise in Arches or families who want to maximize park time without sitting down for a full breakfast.
Jailhouse Cafe
Jailhouse Cafe is another breakfast favorite that comes up repeatedly when people talk about the best restaurants in Moab.
Known for huge portions, creative breakfast specials, and friendly service, it’s particularly popular with visitors heading into Arches for the day.
If you arrive during peak season, don’t be surprised to encounter a wait. The restaurant’s reputation is well established, and plenty of repeat visitors make this one of their first stops whenever they return to Moab.
Love Muffin Cafe
Love Muffin Cafe is one of the best grab-and-go breakfast options in Moab.
Breakfast burritos, bagel sandwiches, pastries, and coffee make it a convenient stop if you’re trying to beat the crowds into the parks.
For visitors who don’t want to spend an hour at breakfast before a big sightseeing day, this is a great alternative to a traditional sit-down restaurant.
Milt’s Stop & Eat
Founded in 1954, Milt’s Stop & Eat feels like a classic roadside burger stand from another era.
The menu focuses on burgers, fries, onion rings, shakes, and other comfort food favorites. Outdoor seating and a casual atmosphere make it especially popular with families.
If you’re craving a simple burger after a day of hiking and sightseeing, Milt’s is one of the most beloved local institutions in town.
Arches Thai
Not everyone wants burgers, pizza, and sandwiches every night.
Arches Thai has developed a loyal following among visitors looking for something different after several days of road-trip food.
Curries, noodle dishes, stir-fries, and traditional Thai specialties provide a welcome change of pace from the more typical restaurant options around town.
For many repeat visitors, it’s one of the most underrated restaurants in Moab.
Sweet Cravings Bakery + Bistro
Perfect for:
- Cinnamon rolls
- Pastries
- Cookies
- Breakfast
- Quick lunches
If you’re looking for something lighter than a full diner breakfast, Sweet Cravings is a great option.
Hidden Cuisine
Hidden Cuisine has earned a reputation for creative Southwestern-inspired dishes made with fresh ingredients.
Many repeat visitors make this one of their first stops whenever they return to Moab.
Miguel’s Baja Grill
If you’re craving tacos, burritos, or Mexican food after several days of road-tripping, Miguel’s is another consistently popular option.
The fish tacos are especially well known.
Zax Restaurant
A longtime Moab favorite known for pizza, pasta, burgers, and a rooftop patio.
It’s a reliable family-friendly option right in the heart of town.
Final Thoughts
If I were returning to Moab tomorrow, these would be my first five restaurant stops:
- Cactus Jack’s
- Moab Food Truck Park
- Moab Diner
- Doughbird
- Antica Forma
Moab easily had the strongest food scene of our entire Utah Mighty 5 road trip.
Whether you’re looking for a giant breakfast before Arches, comfort food after a long day of sightseeing, pizza for the family, tacos, Thai food, burgers, or a special dinner out, you’ll find far more options here than anywhere else along the route.
More than any other stop on our Utah road trip, Moab felt like a destination where the restaurants became part of the experience—not just a place to refuel between adventures.
And after several days of national park exploring, that was a pretty welcome surprise.
