Marty Snook Memorial Park Guide

So, there are parks and playgrounds in Maryland. And then there are super unique and fantastical playgrounds that you have to see to believe! The Marty Snook Memorial Park is definitely one of those places!
The Marty Snook Memorial Park (official name: Martin “Marty” L. Snook Memorial Park) is located in Hagerstown, MD and would make the PERFECT pit stop on a Kid Friendly Maryland Day Trip! It is situated right off I-70, making it a great place to stretch legs to or from Western Maryland or the Pittsburgh area. Or, you can plan a day trip to Washington County and make this lovely park one of your kid friendly stops!
Either way, here is our guide for the park, why we think this is one of the best things to do with kids in Maryland, and what to expect from Marty Snook Park’s Mythical Woods.
Mythical Woods Play Area

The reason Marty Snook Memorial Park is one of the most unique family places in Maryland is because of the Mythical Woods Play Area. Ya’ll– this place is amazing!
It’s a wooded natural play area chock full of fun wood carvings and wooden play structures.

I mean, you almost have to pay these dudes a visit just to get fun photo opportunities! The details on the wood carvings are really intricate.
Personally, I think October would be the most excellent time to visit because there is a certain spooky, haunted feel to the Mythical Woods.

But this playground would excite your kids year round. Because of all the wood carvings, this is a great play area to let your imaginations run wild! Why not bring some capes and fairy wings and let your kids act out fantasies among these beasts!

The moment I saw this carved spider and web I thought of Harry Potter and the Mythical Woods. Perhaps that’s what the creator had in mind? But a Harry Potter-themed dress up play date would work well here too! Bring your wands!

In addition to the carvings, there are actually a few super fun play structures for kids!

They can navigate a log balance beam, climb on a web, and more!

How to Find the Mythical Woods Play Area
It can be kind of tricky to find the Mythical Woods Play Area because it’s hidden from the road and there aren’t really any signs pointing to the entrance.
To get to Mythical Woods, park in the Rainbow Playground Parking lot. This parking area is after the swimming pool parking lot, but before the ball fields. From there, there is a paved path leading into the woods on the right side of the parking lot. That is the path to Mythical Woods. The path is about 1/4 mile (or less) long and leads right to the play area.

Rainbow Connection Playground- Accessible Playground

There is another playground at Marty Snook Memorial Park. It is affectionately called the Rainbow Playground, and is considered the main playground at the park.
This is a more traditional playground but it still has a lot to offer. It offers ramps and accessible play features, as well as a separate area for younger and older kids.

There are slides and swings and a number of super fun climbing structures at this playground too.
You could easily visit both Mythical Woods and the Rainbow Playground on the same trip. Your kids will probably want to play at both play areas!

Other Amenities at Marty Snook Memorial Park
Marty Snook Memorial Park is surprisingly small but it packs so much goodness into that small area.
In the summer Marty Snook Memorial Park has a 25-meter public swimming pool that costs $5 for adults, $4 for kids K-12, and $3 for pre-K kids. That makes this one of the more affordable pool options in Maryland.
There are scads of ball fields, a bike path, and a 1-mile walking trail. You can rent picnic pavilions and there are restroom facilities throughout the park. Other new additions to the park include a fitness area and a dog park.
