From Peeing Outside To Dehydration While Hiking: Healthy Hiking Tips

Check out these healthy hiking tips. Hiking is a fun and healthy way to get outdoors, but there are some important things to plan for!

Going hiking is a blast, but there are a few things that many people fail to mention. While it’s a given that you’ll see wildlife and beautiful views, it’s essential to be realistic about some of the “less than stellar” aspects of the realities of hiking. Here are ten things that no one tells you about hiking.

Hiking is a great outdoor activity that is perfect for getting outside in nature and giving your body great exercise, too. But what most people won’t tell you is that there can be a few surprises along the way while hiking as well. These are a few hiking tips that you’re not going to hear from many, which is why I’m more than happy to pass them along!

You’re going to get a lot of sun

Even if you’re in an area that is shaded, the sun’s rays are still going to find out. Make certain to wear sunscreen on your ears, scalp, shoulders, knees, and toes!

There’s no restroom anywhere on the trail

While this might not be a big deal, it is something to think about. This is why most people prepare to “pop a squat” during their hike but others tend to believe that they’ll just hold it till they get home or to a nearby restroom.

You’ll be way thirstier than you realize

I don’t know why, but you need to drink more water than usual when you’re on a hike. Quite a bit more, actually. The last thing that you want to have happen is to find yourself alone and dehydrated.

Trail hiking times are never right

You know that sign that says this hike should take an hour to complete? They’re usually wrong…I’d add an extra 15 minutes or so to that timeframe as there will be stops and stumbles along the way. The trail is going to be busy with a lot of people. Be prepared for a few waits along the way.

Pack snacks

This is especially true if you’re going to be hiking with kids. THey’ll be hungry and need a power snack fast. Protein bars are always a great option to have on the trail.

You’re going to get bit by bugs

No matter how much bug spray you take, you’re going to get bit. It’s easier to accept that going into it. You can also stop some of the bites by wearing a long sleeve shirt as well.

There will be critters and maybe even snakes

You never know when you see a snake, but there’s a good chance that you’re going to see one. Make sure to wear close-toed shoes if possible to avoid getting bit on the foot.

It can be easy to get lost

The signs can be tricky to follow and sometimes hard to see if overgrown with weeds. If you happen to get lost, just retrace your steps and make sure that your phone is charged to be able to call for help.

You may end up at an ending point far away from your car

This happens all the time. Just when you thought that you knew the trail, you find yourself about a mile away from your car. You have the choice of backtracking or just safely walking along the road to get to your car.

There’s a chance that you’ll have the best time of your life

Even though some of these might be surprising, don’t forget that hiking is a fantastic way to enjoy the beauty of nature.

If you have the chance to hit the trails, do so. It’s time spent in nature that you won’t regret. Hiking is good for the soul and a great way to reconnect with the simplicity of your surroundings.
