What you will need
- A “screen”: There are a few options for what you can use as a screen. You could just use a bedsheet, but a screen will have fewer wrinkles, making it better for movie-watching. However, you can use a sheet if you don’t want to buy a screen.
- A sound system: If you have an outdoor speaker system or use a portable Bluetooth audio device, you can use those. Otherwise, you will want to purchase one that can compete with outdoor elements like wind or other noise.
- A projector: The last piece you will need is a projector. This can be used to show your movie. Just make sure it’s safe to use outdoors and can last the length of your movie.
Getting set up
You will want to use your screen in either the front or backyard, but you will need to have a way for it to hang. You can use a stand (some screens come with them) or hang it on the exterior wall of your home. You can use the garage door or even two trees if you need to. To set up the sound system, you will need to set these up and test the volume to make sure you can hear the audio before the movie begins.
Setting up your movie
Find a way to prop up your project so that it is centered on the screen. You can use a stool or a side table if you don’t have a stand for it. Next, it’s time to hook up your device. Many projectors can use a fire stick, Apple TV, or even a media streamer to project your movie. Read the manual that comes with your projector to find the best way to project your movie based on the specifications that come with your own projector. Each one will be slightly different, so make sure to read the manual first.
Remember your neighbors when you have movie nights
Remember that if you live in a populated area with even one neighbor next store to be courteous. Nobody wants to hear your movie blasting into the wee hours of the morning. You could even offer to have them over if you’d like to make it a fun activity you do with more than just your family.
