Omega Mart Las Vegas

Is Omega Mart in Las Vegas worth it? Here’s what to expect from the weird grocery store, immersive art, hidden passages, mystery, and our best tips.

Estimated reading time: 29 minutes

I’m just going to say this right up front: Omega Mart is one of the weirdest things we did in Las Vegas.

And I mean that as a very, very good thing.

There are so many attractions in Las Vegas that are flashy, over-the-top, immersive, expensive, strange, or some combination of all five. But Omega Mart is different because it’s really hard to explain exactly what it is.

Is it an art museum?

Yes.

Is it an interactive attraction?

Also yes.

Is it a giant fake grocery store filled with ridiculous products?

Absolutely.

Is there some kind of mystery/scavenger hunt/escape-room-ish storyline happening in the background?

Yep.

Is there a decent chance you’ll wander through a refrigerator door and suddenly find yourself somewhere completely different?

Also yes.

Basically, Omega Mart is one of those places where the easiest explanation is probably: you just have to go see it.

And honestly, I would absolutely go again.

We spent somewhere around two to three hours exploring Omega Mart during our visit to Area15, and I still feel like we barely scratched the surface. We didn’t even really do the full mystery portion of the experience, which I definitely would try the next time.

But even without doing the mystery, we had an absolute blast.

First, What Is Area15?

Before we get into Omega Mart, it helps to understand where it is.

Omega Mart is located inside Area15, which is basically a giant entertainment complex in Las Vegas filled with immersive attractions, restaurants, bars, art installations, and all kinds of random experiences.

And when I say random, I mean random.

You can find everything from immersive art to thrill experiences to axe throwing and themed attractions. There are enough things to do inside Area15 that you really could spend most of a day there if you wanted to.

We only did two things during our visit.

The main attraction for us was Omega Mart, and then we also did this chair-style zipline experience where you ride above part of the complex. I don’t have photos of that because you couldn’t bring your phone with you, but it was fun.

That said, Omega Mart was absolutely the main event for us.

If you are going to Area15 and you only have time to choose one major experience, this would be my pick.

So… What Exactly Is Omega Mart?

Omega Mart is created by Meow Wolf, an arts and entertainment company known for these massive immersive installations.

And Omega Mart is technically an art experience.

But that description makes it sound way more serious than it feels when you actually walk inside.

Because the first thing you see is basically a grocery store.

Except it is most definitely not a normal grocery store.

At first glance, you have aisles. Refrigerators. Meat displays. Produce. Laundry detergent. Canned soup. Milk. Beverages.

Then you start reading the labels.

And that is where everything goes completely off the rails.

The Grocery Store Was Honestly My Favorite Part

I know Omega Mart is known for all of the immersive rooms, secret passageways, glowing tunnels, mirrored spaces, strange art installations, and giant psychedelic environments hiding behind the store.

And those things are really cool.

But I am telling you right now, I could have spent forever just wandering around the grocery store.

Because the grocery store is hilarious.

Everything is punny.

And yes, I mean punny as in pun-funny.

It is sarcastic, absurd, clever, and sometimes just completely ridiculous.

You’ll be standing in front of what looks like an ordinary supermarket shelf, and then you realize you are looking at something called Vegan Goat Pus.

Cruelty-free Vegan Goat Pus, obviously.

Because standards.

Then you turn around and find Gender Fluid.

Then there’s Liquid Death Cherry Obituary.

Then you find soup varieties like Implied Chicken, Homestyle Pigeon, Dream of Mushroom, and Hint of Husks.

There’s Corn PM, which is apparently soothing nighttime corn for adults.

There’s laundry detergent called Plausible Deniability.

There’s detergent called Avoid!, which is apparently “the solution for everything.”

There’s an Emergency Romantic Gesture box for when you apparently forgot to have feelings until the very last minute.

And then there was one of my personal favorites: a Wednesday to Friday pill box with the tagline:

“Because some of us can’t handle a whole week.”

I felt seen.

You Are Going to Want to Read Everything

That is the thing about the grocery store portion of Omega Mart.

You really do need to slow down.

Don’t walk through it like it’s just the waiting area before you get to the “real” attraction.

This is part of the attraction.

A huge part of it.

We spent so much time just looking at the products because almost every shelf had something funny on it.

The fake meat department alone was completely ridiculous.

There was an entire “Meats of the World” chart with bizarre cuts of meat and fake cooking instructions.

You had things like Dad Beef, Belief Jerky, Inverted Steak, Spare Glibs, and whatever else somebody decided to invent that day.

There were these enormous fake meat displays that looked like works of modern art.

One of them literally looked like The Scream.

Because apparently that is what meat looks like at Omega Mart.

Why not.

And this is one of the reasons I ended up taking so many photos here.

Every time I thought I was done taking pictures, I would turn around and see something else that made me laugh.

A Lot of the Products Are Actually For Sale

Here’s something else that makes the grocery store even more fun.

A surprising amount of what you see is actually merchandise you can buy.

Not everything, obviously.

You are not bringing home a giant slab of screaming art meat.

At least I don’t think you are.

But there are tons of packaged products, drinks, souvenirs, shirts, and novelty items that are actually for sale.

And I was tempted.

Very tempted.

We were trying really hard not to bring a bunch of random junk back home with us, so I behaved myself.

Mostly.

But this is definitely one of those places where the gift shop is basically built into the attraction.

And honestly, the merchandise is way more interesting than your standard attraction gift shop.

You’re not just buying a generic souvenir magnet.

You can buy something ridiculous enough that everyone who sees it later is going to ask you what on earth happened in Las Vegas.

But Then You Realize the Grocery Store Isn’t Really a Grocery Store

This is where Omega Mart starts getting really fun.

Because nothing is what it seems.

You’ll see what looks like a normal refrigerator door.

Open it.

Secret passageway.

You’ll see a staircase.

Follow it.

Whole different area.

You’ll walk past something that looks completely ordinary and realize it leads somewhere else.

That was one of my favorite things about Omega Mart.

The grocery store is essentially hiding this huge world behind it.

And you don’t really know where anything is going to lead.

That is also how you get lost.

Very, very lost.

Which we absolutely did.

More than once.

And that is something we definitely need to talk about before you bring kids or younger teens here.

Because Omega Mart is incredibly fun.

But it is also dark, loud, confusing, maze-like, and at times complete sensory overload.

And we learned that lesson firsthand.

Behind the Grocery Store Is an Entirely Different World

Once you start opening doors and following passageways, Omega Mart stops feeling like a weird grocery store and starts feeling like somebody dropped you into another dimension.

And this is where the experience gets really immersive.

There are huge rooms covered in projections.

There are mirrored spaces.

There are glowing hallways.

There are weird futuristic rooms.

There are strange little offices.

There are stairs going everywhere.

There are things you can touch, screens you can interact with, clues to follow, and entire areas that feel like they have absolutely nothing to do with the grocery store you just walked through.

It is bizarre.

And really cool.

Some of the rooms are honestly hard to describe because they are so visual.

You’ll walk into one space and everything is glowing blue and purple.

Then you’ll turn a corner and suddenly you’re surrounded by giant faces and mirrors.

Then you’ll end up in a room that looks like some kind of strange futuristic laboratory.

Then you’ll go through another passage and find yourself somewhere completely different again.

That is part of the fun.

You’re never quite sure what is coming next.

You Can Explore Omega Mart in Different Ways

One of the things I really liked about Omega Mart is that there is no one “right” way to experience it.

You can basically choose your own level of involvement.

If you just want to walk around, laugh at the grocery store products, wander through the rooms, take pictures, and enjoy the art, you can absolutely do that.

That is mostly what we did.

And it was still completely worth it.

You can also treat it more like an art museum and really slow down and look at all the installations.

Or you can get much more involved in the storyline.

Omega Mart has an interactive mystery component where you can follow clues, investigate what is going on with the fictional company behind the store, and work your way through different parts of the experience.

It has a little bit of a scavenger hunt vibe.

A little bit of an escape room vibe.

A little bit of a “what on earth is happening here?” vibe.

Basically all of the above.

We did not really commit to the full mystery during our visit.

By that point, my husband and daughter were getting tired, and honestly, we had already been exploring for quite a while.

But if I went back again?

I would absolutely do it.

I think that would make a second visit feel completely different.

Do You Have to Do the Mystery?

No.

And I think that is important.

You do not have to solve anything to enjoy Omega Mart.

You do not have to follow a storyline.

You do not have to understand what every room means.

You can just walk around and enjoy how strange everything is.

That is basically how we experienced it, and we still had a blast.

So if you are visiting with kids, teens, or anyone who does not want to spend hours reading clues and trying to solve a mystery, you are not missing the entire experience.

You are just experiencing it differently.

You Will Probably Get Lost

Now let’s talk about the thing nobody really explains until you are in the middle of it.

You are probably going to get lost.

I got lost.

Multiple times.

And at first that is kind of part of the fun.

You are wandering around thinking, “Where does this go?”

Then you open another door.

Then you climb another staircase.

Then somehow you have no idea where the grocery store went.

And eventually you realize you are not entirely sure how to get back.

That is when it becomes slightly less funny.

There are exits and ways to get out, obviously, but the entire place is designed to be confusing.

That is part of the experience.

The problem is that if you are with a group, especially kids or younger teens, it is very easy to get separated.

And that can become stressful very quickly.

Our Daughter Got Separated From Us

This is one of the biggest things I wish we had thought through before going in.

Our daughter was 13 when we visited, and at one point she got separated from us.

And she got really freaked out.

Not mildly annoyed.

More like getting close to panic-level freaked out.

And I completely understood why.

Omega Mart is not scary.

I want to be clear about that.

But it can be dark.

It can be loud.

There can be flashing lights.

There are strange rooms and hidden passageways.

There are people everywhere.

And when you suddenly realize you have no idea where your parents are in the middle of this giant, sensory-heavy maze, that can feel overwhelming really fast.

So if you are visiting Omega Mart with kids or younger teens, this is one area where I would plan ahead.

Pick a Meeting Spot Before You Start Exploring

If I were doing this again, I would absolutely establish a meeting place before we started wandering around.

And I would make it somewhere easy.

Not some hidden room in the back.

Pick a place in the grocery store.

The meat counter.

A specific aisle.

The front entrance.

Somewhere bright and obvious.

Then say something like:

“If we get separated and we can’t reach each other, meet here.”

You can even set a time.

“If we don’t find each other within 15 minutes, everybody comes back here.”

That would have saved us a lot of stress.

Honestly, I think that is one of the most useful tips I can give families visiting Omega Mart.

Because getting lost is part of the fun.

Getting separated and panicking is not.

Use a Buddy System With Younger Kids

I would also use a buddy system.

Especially if you are with younger kids.

Do not just let everyone scatter.

There are too many ways to go.

One person sees a secret door.

Another person sees a staircase.

Someone else disappears into a refrigerator.

And suddenly everybody is going in completely different directions.

If you have younger kids, I would keep them with an adult.

If you have younger teens, I would still make sure nobody is wandering around completely alone.

That is not because Omega Mart feels unsafe.

It did not.

It is because the layout is intentionally confusing.

And when you add darkness, flashing lights, and lots of people to that, it becomes very easy to lose track of someone.

Cell Service Can Be Spotty

Another thing we noticed is that cell service inside was not great.

So do not assume you are going to be able to text each other instantly if you get separated.

If guest Wi-Fi is available when you visit, I would connect everyone before you start exploring.

Also make sure everybody’s phone is charged.

This is not the place where you want your kid wandering around with 3% battery.

Between taking pictures, using your phone, and trying to communicate with your group, you will probably use your battery more than you think.

Omega Mart Can Be Sensory Overload

This is another thing I would keep in mind if you are visiting with kids, teens, or anyone who is sensitive to intense sensory environments.

There is a lot happening.

Lights.

Music.

Dark rooms.

Bright rooms.

Flashing effects.

Mirrors.

Crowds.

Projections.

Strange sounds.

Unexpected passageways.

Some people are going to absolutely love that.

Other people may find it exhausting after a while.

And honestly, even if nobody in your group normally struggles with sensory overload, Omega Mart can still be a lot.

That was part of why we were ready to leave after a few hours.

It was fun.

It was fascinating.

But by the end, our brains were kind of done.

How Long Do You Need at Omega Mart?

We spent roughly two to three hours at Omega Mart.

And I think that is a good amount of time for a first visit if you are mostly exploring, taking pictures, and not trying to complete the entire mystery.

You could absolutely spend longer.

Especially if you are doing the interactive storyline.

You could also probably move through faster if you are not stopping constantly to read every ridiculous grocery label like I was.

But where is the fun in that?

For most people, I would plan at least two hours.

If you really like immersive art, puzzles, scavenger hunts, or weird interactive experiences, I would probably give yourself closer to three hours or more.

And if you are going to do the mystery seriously, I would build even more time into your day.

The biggest thing is this:

Do not rush Omega Mart.

You will enjoy it so much more if you give yourself permission to wander.

How Much Time Should You Spend at Area15?

This is where I think we underestimated Area15 a little bit.

We knew there were a lot of things to do there.

But I don’t think we really appreciated just how much there was to do until we got there.

We spent two to three hours at Omega Mart alone.

Then we did the chair zipline thing.

And by the time we were finished with those two things, we were pretty much done.

Not because there wasn’t anything else we wanted to do.

There was.

We were just tired.

And honestly, Area15 is the kind of place where trying to cram six attractions into four hours would probably make the entire experience less fun.

There is just too much going on.

If I were planning our visit again, I would probably arrive sometime in the late morning, plan to eat lunch there, and give Area15 at least four or five hours.

Maybe longer.

Then I would choose Omega Mart plus one or two other experiences that sounded especially fun.

Because unless you are spending the entire day here, I don’t think you need to try to do everything.

Pick your priorities and actually enjoy them.

If You Only Do One Thing at Area15, Make It Omega Mart

I feel pretty strongly about this.

If you are visiting Area15 and can only choose one big attraction, I would choose Omega Mart.

Hands down.

There are lots of other experiences at Area15, and depending on your interests, you may find something else that sounds amazing.

But Omega Mart feels like the attraction that really defines the place.

It is weird.

It is funny.

It is creative.

It is completely different from pretty much everything else you are going to do in Las Vegas.

And it appeals to so many different types of people.

I would do this with kids.

I would definitely do this with teens.

I would do this on a girlfriend trip.

I would do this as a couple.

Honestly, I would even do this by myself.

There is just so much to look at that I don’t think you need a particular kind of trip for Omega Mart to work.

Is Omega Mart Good for Teens?

Yes.

A thousand percent yes.

If you are visiting Las Vegas with teens, Omega Mart would be very high on my list.

Actually, it is one of the easiest Las Vegas attractions for me to recommend for teenagers because it doesn’t feel like something designed specifically for little kids.

And it also doesn’t feel like something teens are being dragged along to because their parents want to do it.

It is weird enough to be cool.

There are secret passageways.

There are bizarre rooms.

There are interactive elements.

There are funny products.

There are endless photo opportunities.

There’s a mystery if they want to get into that.

And there is just enough of a “what in the world is happening?” element to keep things interesting.

Our daughter really enjoyed it.

Obviously, I would still use all the precautions I mentioned earlier about staying together, especially with younger teens.

But from an entertainment standpoint?

This is a fantastic teen attraction.

Is Omega Mart Good for Younger Kids?

This is a little more kid-dependent.

There is certainly nothing about Omega Mart that makes me think younger kids can’t enjoy it.

Actually, some kids would probably think it was the greatest thing ever.

But I would think about your particular child.

If your kid loves bright lights, strange environments, secret passageways, and exploring, they may absolutely love this.

If your child gets overwhelmed by loud noises, darkness, flashing lights, crowds, or not knowing exactly where they are going, this could be a lot.

And I would absolutely keep younger kids with an adult.

This is not one of those attractions where I would let younger kids wander ahead while the adults slowly follow behind.

Too many doors.

Too many passageways.

Too many ways to suddenly realize your kid went left when you went right.

Who Might Not Love Omega Mart?

Honestly, most people who like quirky attractions are probably going to have fun here.

But I can think of a few people who might not love it.

If you hate being confused, this probably isn’t your place.

If you need every attraction to have a clear beginning, middle, and end, Omega Mart may drive you a little crazy.

If you don’t like dark spaces, loud noises, flashing lights, or sensory-heavy environments, you may want to think carefully about whether this is something you would enjoy.

And if you are expecting a traditional museum where you walk from Exhibit A to Exhibit B and read a little plaque explaining everything?

That is definitely not what this is.

Omega Mart wants you to explore.

It wants you to wonder what on earth you are looking at.

It wants you to open the weird door.

Which is exactly why I liked it.

Is Omega Mart Worth It?

For us?

Absolutely.

No question.

There are some Las Vegas attractions that are fun, but once you’ve done them, you’re good.

I don’t necessarily need to repeat every attraction we visit.

Omega Mart is different.

I would go back.

And I would go back specifically because I feel like we didn’t do everything.

We mostly wandered.

We laughed at the grocery store.

We explored the immersive areas.

We took approximately nine million pictures.

We got lost.

We found each other again.

And we left.

But we didn’t really dive into the mystery.

So if I went back, that is what I would do differently.

I would give us more time.

I would get the interactive access for the storyline.

And I would actually try to figure out what was going on.

Or at least attempt to.

No guarantees.

My Biggest Tips for Visiting Omega Mart

If this is your first visit, these are the things I would keep in mind.

Give yourself at least two hours.

Three is even better.

Do not rush through the grocery store.

Read the labels.

Open doors.

Look behind things.

Follow the weird passageways.

If you are visiting with kids or younger teens, stay together or use a buddy system.

Establish a meeting point before everyone starts wandering around.

Make sure phones are charged.

Connect to Wi-Fi if it is available.

And don’t schedule Omega Mart between six other attractions and expect to race through it.

That completely defeats the purpose.

This is one of those places where wandering around is the experience.

Would I Go Back to Omega Mart?

Absolutely.

And honestly, that is probably the best endorsement I can give it.

Las Vegas has an enormous number of things competing for your time and money.

So when I say I would spend several hours doing the same attraction again instead of checking something completely new off my list, that says a lot.

Omega Mart is just fun.

It is ridiculous.

It is clever.

It is immersive.

It is completely over the top.

And somehow, the thing I remember most is still wandering around a fake grocery store laughing at things like Vegan Goat Pus and nighttime corn.

Which probably tells you everything you need to know.

If you are planning a Las Vegas trip and you like unusual attractions, immersive experiences, or anything that makes you say, “Who even thought of this?”

Put Omega Mart on your list.

And when you get there, do yourself a favor.

Slow down.

Read the grocery labels.

You will thank me later.

More Fun and Quirky Experiences to Add to Your Travel List

If Omega Mart sounds like your kind of place, you might also love some of these other unusual, interactive, and just plain fun experiences we’ve done around the country.

For another completely different kind of adventure, check out our Coral Pink Sand Dunes UTV Tour in southern Utah. Racing across the dunes at sunset and ending with s’mores was easily one of the most fun things we’ve done on a Southwest road trip.

If you love hands-on museums, the Exploratorium in San Francisco is another fantastic choice. This is not the kind of museum where you quietly walk around looking at things behind glass. You are supposed to touch things, experiment, play, and figure things out.

Another one of my favorite interactive museums is Planet Word in Washington, DC. The entire museum is built around language and words, but it is so creative and immersive that it doesn’t feel like a traditional museum at all.

And for something completely different, consider the Titan Missile Museum in Arizona. Going underground into an actual former missile complex is one of those travel experiences that is incredibly specific, slightly surreal, and very hard to forget.
