The One Reason Your Kids Must Ride the Walkersville Southern Railroad Santa Train

I was pretty nervous about the prospect of my 3-year old daughter encountering Santa Claus inside a small, enclosed space. For the last 2 years she did not ‘react well’ to the jolly old elf. His bright red outfit was never a match for her red-faced screaming and crying. But as we pulled up to the Walkersville Southern Railroad train depot, I just knew this year would be different.

I could sense it. We were about to have a magical Christmas experience.

Let me tell you, the Santa Train did not disappoint.

When it comes to magical experiences for kids, it’s the small things that make a huge difference.

What is the one reason your kids must ride the Walkersville Southern Railroad Santa Train? It is intimate.

Everything about this experience is intimate and perfect for kids of all ages, but especially young kids. The train is adorned with festive wreathes and red velvet ribbons. All of the train workers except the train conductor are dressed as elves. The mood is festive as many families plan inter-generational outings to celebrate the season on this Santa Train.

The train ride itself is about an hour long and winds through the Monocacy Valley countryside. The ride is beautiful and your kids will love trying to spot cows, barns, etc..

Of course, your kids won’t absolutely love the Santa Train because of the cows. They will love it because of Santa Claus.

The Walkersville Southern Railroad Santa Claus is the real deal. He is happy, excited, and has the perfect temperament to charm young kids and parents alike. Santa Claus takes his time and sits with every family and every kid. Kids can sit on his lap and run down their Christmas wish list or they can just give him a big hug. This Santa experience is positively enchanting!

When the train ride is over, guests can walk across the tracks to the train museum and enjoy hot cocoa and homemade cookies. Inside there is also a nice model train display.

We absolutely loved our ride on the Walkersville Southern Railroad Santa Train. And you know what? My 3-year old daughter not only didn’t scream and cry, she gave Santa Claus a huge hug and snuggled up into his lap like they were old friends.

I would say that was a success. Better than that.. I would say that was magic!
