Clothespin Turkey Crafts for Kids

Gobble gobble gobble! If you are looking for super easy and totally adorable Turkey Crafts for Kids, you can’t get much cuter than this clothespin turkey craft. Yes, it is a bit messy, but that is why it is so much fun! Read on to see how we created this little turkey!

Clothespin Turkey Crafts for Kids

Materials Needed:

• 6 or more clothespins
• Dessert-sized paper plate
• Acrylic paint in the following colors: brown, red, yellow, orange, blue, purple, green
• Construction paper or cardstock in the following colors: red, yellow, black, white
• 7 paintbrushes, one for each color
• Scissors
• Craft glue
• 1 1/2″ circle punch
• 3/4″ circle punch
• Painting smock (you definitely want the painting smock)

How to Make the Turkey:

• Ok, this is pretty easy, right? Just messy. Ha! You won’t need a lot of paint to cover the clothespins because each clothespin is one color. I would suggest acrylic paint over tempura paint though, because it dries brighter. We just used 1/2 an egg carton as a paint container. It was the perfect size for the paint. In order to paint each clothespin, you will have to get hands messy. Just have water and paper towels or wet ones on hand to wipe hands as needed.

• Once the clothespins are painted, squirt some brown paint in a small container (we just used a paper plate) and paint the inside (food side) of the small paper plate. It doesn’t necessarily have to be a white plate (ours was yellow only because we had leftover yellow plates) but the lighter the color, the easier it will be to cover the plate with paint.

• Let the paper plate and clothespins dry overnight.

• Punch out the eyes and eye pupils with the large and small circle punch. If you don’t have circle punches and don’t want to make a special purchase, just use a nickel for the pupils and a small jar lid for the whites of the eyes.
• Cut out the turkey beak and giblet from the yellow and red paper.
• Glue the eyes, beak, and giblet to the dried paper plate.
• Stick the painted clothespins on the paper plate to make the turkey feathers.
