Simple Family Fun at Sharp’s at Waterford Farm
Did you know that there are still places in the greater Baltimore-DC area where you can simply take a hayride to a pumpkin patch and pick pumpkins right off the vine without having to navigate the sensory overload that can accompany jumping pillows, slides, duck derby’s and apple cider donuts? Well, when it comes to basic fall family fun, Sharp’s at Waterford Farm is a great place to spend an afternoon and one of the more relaxing Fun Things to Do With Kids in Maryland this Fall.
Sharp’s at Waterford Farm: Fun Things to Do With Kids in Maryland
As we drove past the horse farm and turned onto the gravel road leading to Sharp’s at Waterford Farm, I knew this fall festival would not be the thrill a minute fun fest that we had come to associate with most area pumpkin festivals. A few words came to mind: simple, authentic, slow, real… and I smiled. Sharp’s at Waterford Farm is not an adventure park. However, if you want an authentic, honest to goodness pumpkin picking experience, you will really love spending an afternoon here.
One of the nice things about Sharp’s at Waterford Farm is that there is no admission fee to the farm itself. There is a small fee for entrance to the corn maze, chicken feed, face painting, etc… However, you will get to save most of your cash for the farm market.
So, what can you expect at Sharp’s at Waterford Farm? Well, check it out!
There are plenty of farm animals to feed:
Goats and Pigs
Bunny Rabbits
Chickens and Roosters
For $2-$3 your kid can get their face painted. Sweet Pea chose a tiger face.. of course.
A short hayride brings you to a fantastic pumpkin patch. One field has the large (and very large) pumpkins. The other field has small and mini pumpkins (they are so cute) and small gourds. Since it was still early in the season, we decided to just pick the mini pumpkins.
Once the tractor brings you back to the main barn Country Store, you can shop for good eats, crafts, and other fun things (they sell do-it-yourself scarecrow making kits!), while you pay for your pumpkins.
We did not check out the corn maze (because it started to rain), but Sharp’s at Waterford Farm boasts a 6-acre corn maze, as well as a mini maze for the kids.
There are port-a-potty facilities at the farm, and you can purchase pizza, BBQ, and hotdogs for lunch. However, if you want something more substantial for lunch, I would highly recommend checking out the Smokin’ Hot Bar & Grille in Glenwood. They specialize in delicious BBQ and have a great menu for the kids as well.
