Pecos Bill Review: What to Order and What to Expect

Wondering if Pecos Bill is worth eating at Magic Kingdom? Here’s my honest review, what to order, seating tips, and why I think it’s better than its reputation.
Estimated reading time: 8 minutes
If you’re craving tacos, rice bowls, or something a little different from burgers and chicken nuggets, Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn and Cafe is one of the best quick service options at Magic Kingdom.
Over the years, Pecos Bill has developed something of a mixed reputation. Many longtime Disney fans still miss the famous toppings bar that disappeared after COVID, and you’ll still hear people talk about “how much better it used to be.”
Honestly?
I think it’s still a really solid restaurant.
I’ve eaten here several times over the years, and I’ve genuinely enjoyed every meal I’ve had. Is it my favorite quick service restaurant at Magic Kingdom? No. But it’s consistently good, filling, and one I’d happily eat at again.
Here’s why.

Pecos Bill at a Glance
Location: Frontierland
Cuisine: Tex-Mex and Southwestern-inspired favorites
Dining Plan: Quick Service Meal (when available)
Mobile Order: Yes
Indoor Seating: Yes
Air Conditioning: Yes (although not quite as cool as some restaurants)
My Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆
Best For: Tacos, rice bowls, hearty lunches, and families looking for something beyond burgers and fries.

Where Is Pecos Bill?
Pecos Bill is located in the heart of Frontierland, just a short walk from Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, and Adventureland.
It’s an easy restaurant to work into your day whether you’re spending the morning exploring Frontierland or looking for lunch before heading toward Adventureland or Liberty Square.
Because of its location, it’s one of my favorite places to eat when we’re spending a lot of time on the west side of Magic Kingdom.
Why I Keep Coming Back
I’ll admit something.
I don’t really understand all the hate this restaurant gets.
Yes, I’ve heard all about the old toppings bar.
Yes, I’m sure it was fun.
But judging Pecos Bill based on what it is today, I think it’s a really good quick service restaurant.
I’ve eaten here multiple times, and every meal has been flavorful, filling, and exactly what I was hoping for.
Sometimes that’s all I really want from a quick service restaurant.

What I Recommend Ordering
One of my favorites was the Taco Trio, which unfortunately is no longer on the menu. Disney has updated Pecos Bill’s offerings over the past couple of years, replacing the tacos with a create-your-own menu featuring rice bowls, nacho bowls, tamales, and salads.
I’d happily order the rice bowls again too.
Both meals felt fresh, had generous portions, and kept me full for quite a while.
I also tried the Corn Mousse.
It was…fine.

Honestly, I think it was prettier than it was memorable.
It wasn’t bad by any means, but with so many incredible desserts and snacks throughout Magic Kingdom, I probably wouldn’t spend my dessert calories on it again.

Frontierland Theming Done Right
One thing I think Pecos Bill does really well is the atmosphere.
No, it isn’t over-the-top Disney theming, but it really does feel like you’ve stepped into an Old West trading post or saloon. There are several different dining rooms, fun details on the walls, and plenty to look at while you’re eating.
Now, I will say this isn’t the quiet escape that Columbia Harbour House is. During the lunch rush, Pecos Bill can be downright noisy. But because the restaurant is so large, it never feels quite as cramped as some of the smaller quick service locations.
If you’re looking for a place where your kids can relax, laugh, and just be themselves without worrying about keeping their voices down, this is a great choice.

Is Pecos Bill Good for Families?
Absolutely.
The menu offers enough variety that most families can find something they’ll enjoy, and the portions are generous enough that lighter eaters may even be able to share.
One thing I especially appreciate is that it feels like a real meal.
If you’ve been surviving on popcorn, churros, and Mickey pretzels all morning, Pecos Bill is a great place to sit down and eat something a little more substantial before heading back out into the park.
Who Might Want to Skip Pecos Bill?
As much as I enjoy Pecos Bill, it won’t be everyone’s first choice.
If you’re looking for a quiet, relaxing meal where you can cool off for a while, I’d probably recommend Columbia Harbour House instead.
Likewise, if your family only wants burgers, hot dogs, or chicken nuggets, Casey’s Corner or Cosmic Ray’s may be easier choices.
Pecos Bill really shines if you’re craving a Chipotle-style rice bowl experience, or something with a little more flavor than your typical theme park meal.
If that sounds good to you, I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised.
Things to Know Before You Go
One thing you should know before choosing Pecos Bill is that it’s popular.
Really popular.
The restaurant has a huge dining room, but during the lunch rush it can feel like absolute chaos.
The good news is that because it’s so large, people are constantly coming and going. We’ve always managed to find a table without waiting too terribly long.
One thing I do appreciate is that despite how busy it gets, the restaurant is very efficient. Tables turn over quickly, Mobile Order helps move things along, and we’ve never had trouble finding somewhere to sit after a short wait.
The restaurant is air conditioned, although because parts of the building are fairly open, it doesn’t feel quite as chilly as somewhere like Columbia Harbour House.
Even so, it’s still a welcome break from the Florida heat.
Another bonus?
The restrooms are conveniently located right inside the restaurant.
It’s a small detail, but one that’s surprisingly helpful when you’re traveling with kids.
And definitely use Mobile Order.
Pecos Bill is one of those restaurants where Mobile Order can save you quite a bit of time during busy lunch hours.
If you’re visiting during Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party or Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party, Pecos Bill often remains open with special event offerings instead of its regular menu. That makes it one of the more reliable places to grab food if you’re attending one of Disney’s seasonal parties.
Is Pecos Bill Worth It?
I definitely think so.
No, it isn’t quite as relaxing as Columbia Harbour House.
And no, it doesn’t have the nostalgic charm of Casey’s Corner.
But if I’m in Frontierland and looking for a filling lunch, Pecos Bill is an easy yes.
I’ve never walked away disappointed.
Every meal I’ve had has been consistently good, and I’d happily recommend it to anyone looking for something a little different than burgers and fries.

Final Thoughts
Pecos Bill may not be everyone’s favorite quick service restaurant, but I honestly think it deserves more credit than it gets.
The food is consistently good, the portions are generous, and it’s one of my favorite places to grab a hearty lunch while exploring Frontierland.
If you’re looking for tacos, rice bowls, or a filling meal that will keep you going for the rest of your Magic Kingdom day, Pecos Bill is definitely worth considering.
