1. Artsy Partsy

Artsy Partsy is probably one of our favorite places to visit in Maryland. Ms. Jeannette has more than doubled the size of this kid-friendly art studio in Pasadena and for good reason. She offers tons of art classes for kids of all ages, including school’s out art camps. There are special events, including Mommy and Me and Daddy and Me painting events. Every Friday evening is Family Paint Night and there are open studio hours every weekend!

2. Urbana Art & Soul Studio

This is a fantastic art studio in Ijamsville, MD that mostly offers classes and camps. However, every Monday and Tuesday from 10-11am, they host a Tiny Art Explorers Program for kids through pre-K. This program begins with a “circle time” and then kids and parents participate in various art centers. The centers include monthly themed fine motor skills, fun easel painting, creative play, early literacy, math, & crafts.

3. Walters Art Museum

Drop-In Art Making every weekend. Not only can you visit this Baltimore art museum, but head to the lower level to take part in ongoing themed art projects designed for kids! Available every Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., the activities are themed and each weekend features a different project.

4. Saturday Art Explorers|Glen Echo Park

Glen Echo is a super cool place where you can see phenomenal children’s theatre. You can also make art with your kids! Activities take place every Saturday morning from 10am-1pm in the Candy Corner studio for kids ages 10 and under.

7. American Visionary Art Museum

This wacky, but totally visually appealing art museum in Baltimore hosts Weekend Walk-In Workshops a few Saturdays a year. These workshops are hands-on, drop-in, art-making workshops in the AVAM classroom! Supplies & boundless inspiration provided!

8. Baltimore Museum of Art

Free Family Sundays

9. Social Studio in Baltimore

Social Studio’s Weekend Workshops take place every Saturday from 10am-noon. Each week there is a different ‘Make and Take’ activity and they change the theme every month. Classes are geared for kids ages 5+ and cost $25 to participate.

Academy Art Museum in Easton, MD is a great place for all things art. Even though they are currently (2020) undergoing construction, the museum still hold FREE Family Art Days about once a month.

This cool paint bar is located in the National Harbor, MD. It mostly offers events for adults but about once a week they offer canvas painting sessions for kids and parents.

This is a fantastic pottery painting and art studio in Easton, MD. Like many of these art places, much of their activities are geared towards adults. But they have two kid-focused events every month. 1st Friday: Story Time from 10:30-11:30am is perfect for your younger kids. Kids enjoy story time and then a project that corresponds to the book. A small snack and drink will be available for children attending.

1st Friday: Kids Night Out from 6-8pm is geared towards kids ages 6-13. Sign your child up for Kids Night Out where they will be joined with other kids their age to make a project, eat pizza and have a lot of fun! The best part is you getting two hours to do whatever you want on a Friday night!

Not exactly a drop-in art experience, but you can arrange for the ArtBus to come to your event! From their website: 

“ArtLab is a mobile arts education and enrichment platform which allows us to bring the power of creativity to you. A former bookmobile, graciously gifted from the Allegany County Library System, it has received an impressive makeover which allows us to bring equipment and supplies to every corner of our community.

Since its arrival, the ArtLab has offered free STEAM programming to students all across Allegany County, entertained kids in the pavilion at Delfest, visited public libraries, church parking lots, private schools and more.”

Allegany County also offers Art on Demand– virtual art lessons for elementary school-aged kids.

This is boutique DIY art studio that offers hands on art classes. There are 6 locations in Maryland (Columbia, Frederick, Rockville, La Plata, Reisterstown, and Rockville).
