10 Fun Ways To Toast The New Year With Kids
10 Fun Ways to Toast the New Year with Kids
If your kids are staying up to midnight check out these fun ways to toast the New Year with kids.
Clinking your glasses together in a toast to the new year is a classic New Year’s Eve tradition. But toasting with a glass of champagne isn’t exactly kid-friendly. If you’re planning on celebrating the new year with your family this year, there’s no reason to forgo your annual New Year’s Eve toast. Instead, try one of these 10 fun ways to toast to the New Year with your kids.
1. Skip the Alcohol
If you don’t want to give up on your annual tradition this year, there is an easy solution! Simply swap out the traditional alcoholic champagne for a non-alcoholic alternative. For a drink that looks like champagne but doesn’t have the alcohol, consider pouring sparkling grape juice or sparkling cider into champagne flutes. You’ll still get the fizzy bubbles, just like champagne, but in a more kid-friendly form. Just make sure to use plastic champagne glasses to avoid broken glass during your New Year’s Eve celebration.
2. Take it Literally
Kids often take things literally. Play on that silliness by toasting to the new year with – toast! Pop some bread in the toaster just before midnight, then lay out a spread of toast, along with butter, jellies, and jams. Then count down to the new year and enjoy a midnight snack as you celebrate.
3. Noise Makers
I can’t think of a more kid-appropriate way to celebrate than by making lots of noise! Give your kids the go-head to be loud while they celebrate the new year by passing out noise makers before the clock strikes midnight. Then, instead of clinking glasses, let them go to town by blowing or banging their noise makers to their heart’s content. They’re sure to have a blast ringing in the new year this way – even if you end up with some ringing in your ears when they’re finished.
4. Sing a Song
Singing a round of Auld Lang Syne is another New Year’s Eve tradition. But it’s one your kids can easily be a part of! Take the time to teach your kids the song before the strike of midnight, then sing a round together to celebrate the new year.
5. Balloon Drop
Balloons are always a hit with kids. Make the strike of midnight on New Year’s Eve special by setting up a balloon drop. Simply hang a net near your ceiling and fill it with balloons. When the clock strikes midnight, release the balloons and let your kids celebrate the new year with a shower of colorful balloons! Then, tire them out by letting them play with the balloons for a few minutes before they head to bed.
6. Glow Sticks
Give the new year a cool glow by giving your kids glow sticks instead of toasting with a glass of champagne. When the countdown starts, turn out the lights and let your kids celebrate the new year in a glow of neon. To make it even more memorable, give them lots of different glowing options, including necklaces, bracelets, glasses, hats, balls, and sticks!
7. Sparklers
If the weather isn’t too cold outside on New Year’s Eve, head outside and light some sparklers! (Even if it’s chilly outside, you could bundle up your kids for a few minutes to enjoy a sparkler show). Fireworks are always a fun way to celebrate, and kid-friendly sparklers are the perfect way to ring in the new year with your family.
8. Make Resolutions
Making resolutions is a great way to kick off the new year. And kids can easily get in on the resolution-making fun! With a little guidance, your kids can make set some great goals to help them start off their new year on the right foot.
9. Smash a Pinata
Pinatas aren’t just for birthday parties! They also make a great way to celebrate the new year. If you’re crafty, take the time to make your own pinata before the big day. Or just buy a festive pinata and fill it with candy or confetti. Then, hang it and let your kids take turns hitting the pinata at midnight. You’ll have a fun activity and a big bang when they’re finished. What better way to ring in the new year with your kids?
10. Make a New Tradition
There are so many New Year’s Eve traditions from around the world. This year, incorporate a fun new tradition from a different region or country into your annual celebration. Here are some fun traditions from around the world to consider:
- Eat 12 grapes at midnight, one at each chime of the clock’s bell, to have a prosperous new year (a tradition in Spain)
