I am so very pleased to announce the launch/publication of The Mom Quilt, an ebook compiled by Becky Mansfield, Paula Rollo, and Jodi Kerr. The entire proceeds from this book will go to benefit The Mercy House, which is located in Kenya and founded by Kristen Welch.
This book, which includes over 60 encouraging and inspiring stories about motherhood from both bloggers and non-blogging Mom writers, has two main goals:
- Encourage Moms at all stages and circumstances of motherhood.
- Raise $40,000 to build a water well in Kenya on the Mercy House property.
Have you ever wondered how you could make a difference? How about this? Right now in Kenya, there are women who have sought refuge in the Mercy House, a Christian aid organization whose mission is to:
“Empower women and teenage mothers around the world through partnerships and sustainable fair trade product development. Disciple women to be lifelong followers of Jesus Christ.”
The thing is, currently the Mercy House does not have a water well on the premises. As such, 100% of the proceeds of this book will be donated to raise funds to build the well for the Mercy House. All submissions and the effort/time of Becky, Paula, and Jodi have been donated in order to keep overhead to a minimum.
Of course, the women of the Mercy House are not the only Moms who will benefit from The Mom Quilt. This book was written for encouragement for all Moms. I hope that you will be encouraged as you laugh and cry along with the stories of the Moms who each tell their unique and heartwarming Mom story.
I am so honored to have been included among the contributors of The Mom Quilt. Here is an excerpt from the story I submitted, entitled ‘The Grace of a Milkshake’:
A while back, during another day of high emotions, I received encouragement from a Mom who had been there and survived (mostly) intact. It was Daddy’s turn to discipline, and as he carried our daughter away kicking and screaming, I couldn’t help it. The tears welled up before I could bury my Mommy emotions and I just started sobbing.
My friend just rested her hand on my shoulder and said one of the most profound parenting truths I think I have ever heard:
“You are her safe person. The only reason she acts like this is because you are her safe person. She doesn’t know where the boundaries are with others… so she doesn’t push them. She does push your buttons because she knows (hopes) that you will love her anyways.”
I just took a sneak peek at the book and am so excited to read all of the heartwarming and encouraging stories from Moms in all sorts of circumstances. Mostly though, I am just thrilled to be able to help women in need and empower them to rise above their circumstances. Now that… that is encouraging!
Please consider supporting this worthy project. Also, please share this with other Moms and help us achieve the goal of building a well for these Moms!
“And if you give even a cup of cold water to one of the least of my followers, you will surely be rewarded.”– Matthew 10:42 (New Living Translation)
The book, which is being offered for a suggested donation of $9.99 (you can choose to donate more if you would like), is on sale now!
