What is Bullet Planning?

Bullet journaling and bullet planning are the same. Bullet planning focuses on bullet points with short sentences rather than writing out long paragraphs. It focuses on more list styles of writing and planning rather than pictures or other ways of organizing. Bullet planning is made for people who prefer lists or a bullet format for organizing.

Tips for Bullet Planning

If you are just getting started with bullet planning, here are some helpful tips and tricks that might help you out!

Start small

Bullet planning lists can get very long. However, start small. Don’t worry about making an entire book full of lists. Start with one list at a time. Start by making a list of things you want to do, goals you want to achieve, or even just a grocery list. This will make it easier to plan out other lists once you’ve gotten over the hurdle of the first one.

You don’t have to plan and track everything

Not everything needs to be planned or tracked! If you have a good habit of going to sleep simultaneously every night, you probably don’t need to put it in a bullet planning list. Instead, you may want to focus on the things you are struggling with. This way, you can hold yourself accountable.

Start with what you know

What kind of plans and lists do you already know how to make? This is a great place to start! For example, if you can do a simple to-do list and your grocery list, you may feel more confident when doing something more intense like a habit tracker.

Don’t worry about the creatives and pictures

Bullet journals are about function. When bullet planning focuses on making a list that will function well. It needs to work well for you, or it won’t be helpful. This means often forgoing the creatives and drawings until you have a handle on the list.

Bullet points are the core structure of any bullet journal, and this creative method of journaling and taking notes has helped transform the way I journal! When I first started, I was so overwhelmed by all the beautiful designs on the internet. However, I have found my own unique way of bullet planning, and I hope that it inspires you to give it a try as well.
