Healthy Lifestyle Changes That Will Improve Your Mental Health
A healthy life leads to a healthy mind. Check out these healthy lifestyle changes that will absolutely improve your mental health!
During these interesting times, we all might be experiencing a bit of anxiety and even depression. In a world suffering from self-isolation, it might be surprising to hear that healthy living can help cope with many mental health issues. Living a healthy lifestyle is one of the best natural medicines we have at our disposal, and here are some simple healthy lifestyle changes that will improve your mental health.
Start being mindful about what you eat
Eating whole foods such as leafy greens and whole grains can help with brain function and other parts of the body. Eating a healthy diet can not only increase your energy but even transform your mood! Studies have shown that eating healthy whole foods will do a lot more for your mental health than you might think!
Get moving
Living a sedentary lifestyle will not only affect your body but your mood as well! Even just going for a walk can help improve your mood and help you get in some exercise. If you’re feeling up for it, try and aim for about 30 minutes of exercise a day or 150 minutes per week if you can!
Make sleep a priority
Getting eight hours of sleep is one of the most important things you can do for your body and for your health. Getting enough sleep will ensure you have enough energy for the day and that you can focus on the tasks you need to get done. If you’re feeling tired or sleepy, your mood can be affected. You might be more irritable or even depressed as a result of not getting enough sleep.
Eat breakfast
Breakfast tends to be one of those meals that we forget about or even skip altogether. Eating a healthy breakfast can boost your mood, as long as you’re choosing the right foods. Make sure that you’re eating a low-sugar breakfast that has both protein and healthy fat. Breakfasts don’t have to be time-consuming either! Something quick like eggs or avocado and whole-grain toast are great breakfast options.
Find a healthy way to deal with stress
Stress is not only going to keep you from living a healthy life but can even trigger mental illness. One of the best things you can do for yourself and your health is to find good ways to deal with stress.
If you need some tips for helping to deal with stress, here are some ideas:
- Start journaling
- Meditate
- Go for a walk
- Reach out to a friend to vent
- Do some yoga
- Spend time with family
- Do something fun
- Take a nap
Drink plenty of water
Dehydration isn’t always the dry throat feeling you get when you’ve been too long without water. Your body might start to feel tired, you may feel unmotivated, or even exhausted if you’re not getting enough water! Make sure you’re drinking plenty of water, even if you need to add some flavoring to it to get in your full eight glasses.
If you are suffering from a mental health disorder, please talk with a doctor before you try anything on this list. However, if you’re noticing a change in your mental health, changing your lifestyle could help with many of the feelings you’re experiencing right now.
