Maryland’s Ice Cream Trail is such a sweet and fantastic culinary tour of Maryland’s local dairy farm’s and creameries. Take the challenge. You won’t regret it!
One of the most iconic, and certainly the sweetest, signs of summer is indulging in a huge scoop (or two) of creamy, decadent ice cream. Every summer Maryland celebrates their homegrown creameries with a promotion called Maryland’s Ice Cream Trail.
In order to qualify for the Ice Cream Trail, Maryland Dairy Farms have to offer ice cream from the cows they have on their farm.
And the result is oh, so delicious.
My daughter and I have been to almost all of the creameries (1 more left!) and if you accept this adventurous challenge too, you will be in for such an awesomely sweet treat!
1. Prigel Family Creamery
Prigel Family Creamery in Glen Arm, MD scoops up some amazingly creamy ice cream. You can hang out with the cows and enjoy the farm. The creamery’s location is gorgeous.
Prigel Family Creamery has been in the dairy farming business for over 5 generations. They are organically certified and offer more than just ice cream. Prigel Family Creamery is open from 1130-8pm Monday-Saturday. On Friday and Saturday evenings their signature Food Truck, The Farm Kitchen, serves delicious sandwiches as well. They are closed on Sundays.

2. South Mountain Creamery
The South Mountain Creamery in Middletown, MD is probably the most well-known of the Maryland Creameries… and with good reason. Not only is their ice cream to die for (we have tried multiple flavors. They are all awesome), but there are a few other treats in store at the creamery as well.
There is a playground (super fun) and a few fun annual events. However, you have to time your visit for 4pm daily when you can actually bottle feed the calves. Yes, you read that right.. you can actually feed baby cows! How awesome is that? And don’t worry if you can’t be there right at 4pm. Starting at 130pm you can also watch the cows be milked daily and the baby calves are always there. If you miss the bottle feeding, you can still spend some time with them. Sooooo cute!

3. Rocky Point Creamery
There are three creameries on the Maryland Ice Cream Trail that are doubly awesome because.. wait for it… they also have sunflowers! Woo Hoo! Can you even believe how awesome that is?
The Rocky Point Creamery in Tuscarora, MD is so much fun! There are so many delicious flavors to choose from. Kids will love playing on the gigantic John Deere Tractor Playground.
And the sunflowers… during a few amazing weeks every summer you can not only eat ice cream, but pick sunflowers too!

4. Broom’s Bloom Dairy
Broom’s Bloom Dairy in Bel Air, MD is a Harford County institution and it has a large and loyal following. Why? Well the ice cream is phenomenal and they offer a full lunch and dinner menu as well. Everything is fresh, natural, and locally made.
From late Spring until the weather chills, Broom’s Bloom has live music on the weekends.
They also have sunflowers in late August. Ice cream, live music, and Insta-worthy frolicking among sunflowers? How awesome is that?

5. Keyes Creamery
Keyes Creamery in Aberdeen is phenomenal. Their ice cream is made from the milk of grass-fed cows which are milked twice a day to produce the ice cream that is made fresh. They have an extensive summer menu of ice cream flavors including Red Velvet, Salted Caramel Brownie, and Lemon Blueberry. Oh my goodness.. excuse me while I drool!
They are open Tuesday-Sunday from noon-9pm and are closed on Mondays.

6. Woodbourne Creamery at Rock Hill Orchard
The Woodbourne Creamery at Rock Hill Orchard is one cool place to hang with your kids. In the summer and fall you can indulge in delicious ice cream and pick your own fruit, ranging from berries and cherries to apples in the fall. In the fall they also have a corn maze, pumpkin cannons, and hay rides!
Oh, and on fall weekends you can bottle feed the calves at 4pm too!

7. Misty Meadow Farm Creamery
Misty Meadow Farm Creamery is the third entry in the ice cream and sunflower category. This creamery, which is located in Smithburg, MD near the Pennsylvania border, not only serves amazing ice cream, but has tons of other fun activities too.
There is a play yard for kids, various animals like chickens and goats you can feed, and sunflowers! Yep, Misty Meadow Farm plants sunflowers in the summer too! In the spring they hold Easter Egg Hunts and in the fall there is a corn maze, hayrides, and a pumpkin patch!

8. Delightful Dairy
Delightful Dairy in Williamsport is the newcomer to Maryland’s Ice Cream Trail list! They offer delicious soft serve ice cream and super yummy milkshakes in marshmallow, peanut butter, smores, and oreo cookie flavors!

9. Chesapeake Bay Farms, Inc
Chesapeake Bay Farms in Berlin and Pocomoke is the only creamery on this list we haven’t visited.. yet. But if you are headed to Ocean City or the Eastern Shore, you will absolutely want to make a pit stop here for a scoop.. or two.. or three.
Kids can get in on the action by helping to milk the cows (how cool is that?).
The Pocomoke Dairy Farm is open 7 days a week from 11am-7/8pm. The Berlin location is open 7 days a week from noon-8pm.

10. Happy Cow Creamery
Another new creamery on the list, Happy Cow Creamery in Union Bridge. Not only do they serve delicious ice cream, but they also offer weekly specialty milkshakes!
The Happy Cow Creamery is open Thursday and Friday from 4-8pm, Saturday from 2-8pm, and Sunday from 2-7pm.

11. Lockbriar Farms
There are many great reasons to visit Lockbriar’s Farm– pick your own fruit, flowers– including sunflowers, and in the fall loads of pumpkins, apple cider slushies, and a corn maze.
Of course they have an ice cream barn that serves delicious flavors as well. Check out some of these awesome flavors– lavender honey, briar berry lavender, vanilla honey, peach, blackberry, and double chocolate.

12. Moo Cow Creamery at Walnut Ridge Farm

In 2024 there are 12 creameries that are part of Maryland’s Ice Cream Trail.
In 2024, the Maryland’s Ice Cream Trail challenge starts Memorial Day weekend and runs through September 10th. To enter, take a photo or selfie at each of the creameries (or the first 11. Submit your completed challenge to icecream.trail1@maryland.gov for a chance to win a Maryland State Parks Pass and bragging rights!
Most of the creameries are on farm creameries that produce and sell their ice cream direct to the customers. But the list has expanded to include a few more farms this year. Don’t worry… the ice cream is still legit amazing!
