Trail mix

You can make your own trail mix or buy some at a store if you prefer! Trail mix is a great munching snack for your kids and a great snack with lots of nuts and dried fruit to keep them full. • Nuts– almonds, peanuts, walnuts, etc..
  • Raisins, Craisins, other dried fruit
  • Chocolate Chips

Fruit leather

If your kids are picky eaters and don’t always like eating fresh fruit, try packing some fruit leather instead! This is a great alternative that feels like a treat but is just as healthy!

Whole-grain crackers

Crackers are an excellent snack for your kids to munch on, and whole-grain crackers will help keep them full longer! You can also add some cheese and deli meat to let them make their own Lunchables.

Snack bars

Cliff bars or Lara Bars are an excellent option for kids who need a heavier snack after a long hike! These bars are easy to grab and perfect for on the go snacks that won’t make a big mess. These are a great snack option to help your kids refuel after a day full of hiking activities! Energy bars tend to have a little more healthy than your regular snack bar and are much higher in protein.

Granola Bars and Cereal Bars

Granola bars are a great way to let your kids munch on something tasty, and won’t get too messy. Just be careful of granola bars that have chocolate as these might melt in the hot sun. If you want a quick, non-messy option for breakfast, you can also bring a box of cereal bars. This would be a great option for your last day of camping when you are trying to pack up to go home.

String cheese

While these do need to stay in the cooler, this can be a great source of calcium and dairy while you’re camping! These are a great snack that your kids can grab themselves, and they’re once again not messy!

Dried fruit

Dried fruit is so much more fun than regular fruit! Your kids will love munching on dried fruit, and this can be a great way to avoid having to try to keep fruit cold or away from bugs!

Squeezable Fruit

These fruit pouches don’t have to be refrigerated and are pretty low mess. But kids and parents both love the flavors and versatility of this grab and go fruit option.

Cereal

Cereal can be an excellent treat for your kids, especially if you can find the small boxes of cereal. If your kids like milk in their cereal, you might want to get a bowl and let them have it at the campsite, but if they don’t mind dry cereal like Cheerios, these are great on the go snacks.

Hummus with chips or veggies

You can get single serving size hummus cups and pack a ziploc bag full of dippable veggies like baby carrots, celery sticks, and sweet peppers strips. This colorful, and incredibly healthy, snack is sure to be a crowd pleaser. It’s also not super messy.

Nutella or Peanut Butter Cups

Speaking of convenient, single serving size snacks, kids love Nutella. My daughter asks for Nutella pretty much anytime she wants a quick snack. You can get Nutella cups that just have this delicious chocolate-hazelnut spread. Or, you can buy single serving size Nutella with bread sticks or pretzels. It’s really the perfect snack and not messy.

If your kids prefer peanut butter, throw in single serving sizes of peanut butter to go with your crackers too!

Jerky

We LOVE snacking on Jerky– Beef, Turkey, even Chicken Jerky. Jerky is high protein and usually low in sugar. You can get jerky sticks or jerky strips. Also, you can mix up flavors with some being sweeter and some being spicy.

Mixed nuts

You probably will have some mixed nuts in your trail mix, but don’t discount bringing nuts as a quick snack on their own. You can purchase single serving packages of almonds and walnuts at the grocery store. Or, you can buy a bigger container for family sharing. Some of our favorite nuts to have for quick energy include:

  • Pistachios (get the ones that are already shelled for less mess!)
  • Almonds
  • Walnuts
  • Cashews
  • Peanuts
  • Pecans

Hard-boiled eggs

If you have space in your cooler, I highly recommend bringing hard-boiled eggs! These are an excellent option for a cold snack that is high in protein!

These are hearty and healthy snacks that will help your kids stay full longer and help replenish calories during a long and strenuous hike! Keep these snacks handy while camping to satisfy your hungry kids!
