If you have a pirate lover in your house, then celebrating Talk Like a Pirate Day is a fun oddball holiday that your kids will enjoy. If this is your first time celebrating Talk Like a Pirate Day, then you may want to consider planning a few things to make this day extra special. Here are five ways to celebrate Talk Like a Pirate Day.

Talk like a pirate

Of course, the most obvious choice of how to spend this day is to talk like a pirate! Go online and learn some fun pirate phrases and even come up with a fun pirate name for yourself. You can also challenge your kids to spend the whole day talking like a pirate and see how long they can go!

There are a lot of books out there about pirates! No matter how old your kids are, you can likely find a story that will be perfect for your kids. Head to your local library or bookstore, and see what kind of stories you can find for this special day! Make sure you head out early, or you may struggle to find some books.

There are a lot of pirate films and shows out there that you can watch today! Make a fun pirate-themed treat and watch a pirate movie! Here are some pirate movie ideas:

This might not be an option depending on where you live and how many locations are near you, but on Talk Like a Pirate Day, Krispy Kreme has a bunch of excellent donut offers! We have seen a free dozen to those who dress up and talk like a pirate, and those who speak like one get a free donut! It’s worth noting that you will only get a free glazed donut, so if you don’t like glaze donuts you might want to pass.

Play dress up (like a pirate)

You don’t have to go out and buy a bunch of new clothes to have your kids dress like pirates! You can probably make a fun outfit just out of the stuff you have! Make an eyepatch, a hat, and even a fake hook for an arm. Find some loose pants and a shirt to match, then add a bandana to complete your look! You can also challenge your kids to come up with the best costume using only what they can find!
