3 Fun and Easy Apple Crafts!

3 Fun and Easy Apple Crafts
Do you think you can’t do cute crafts with your toddler because a) it takes too much organization, b) you are too busy and don’t have enough time, or c) toddler crafts are way too complicated and messy? Well, hopefully this will inspire you to get crafty with your cutie! I got the ideas for these three apple-themed craft projects from some amazing fellow bloggers and all three of them were super fun and very easy to accomplish either on a Saturday morning or in the ‘after nap, before dinner’ time of day.

Tissue Paper Apple Kid Craft

As soon as I saw this cute craft on Glued to My Crafts I fell in love with it. Stacey has a great idea here and if you want to see her post, here it is: http://gluedtomycraftsblog.com/2014/08/tissue-paper-apple-kid-craft.html!

Sweet Pea and I pretty much followed Stacey’s instructions, except I failed to purchase red tissue paper. No worries though because I have a roll of red crepe paper left over from Sweet Pea’s 2nd birthday party. Never let some good crepe paper go to waste! It was a great standby for the tissue paper.
Tissue Paper AppleThis entire craft took less than half an hour to complete. Well, at least the parts that involve your kiddo. While Sweet Pea napped, the paint and glue dried and then I cut out the handprint/apple stem and stapled it to the apple plate.

Here are the materials list for this craft:
white paper plate
Elmer’s glue
red crepe paper
green paint
white paper or cardstock
paint brush
pencil or marker
red food coloring— yep, that is what I said– food coloring!

One of the cool tips that Stacey included on her site is that she ‘infused’ the glue with apple-scented red food coloring. Well, I did not have apple-scented– but mixing red food coloring into the glue was a nice touch, especially since Sweet Pea lost interest in sticking the crepe-paper apple bits onto the paper plate pretty quickly. She was much more into the painting part. I will say though that I was Mommy messy with the food coloring and my fingers are still red three days later- ‘sigh’. In order to get Sweet Pea involved in as much of the craft as possible, I emptied the red glue onto a paper plate and let her ‘paint’ it on the apple plate.

Pom Pom Apple Tree

Allison McDonald was a truly amazing website called No Time for Flashcards, which is where I got the idea for this next craft. It is really so simple that you don’t need an explanation, but I will tell you about our experience anyway! If you would like to see Allison’s original ‘Pom Pom Apple Tree’ or tons of other great craft ideas for toddlers, check out this link: http://www.notimeforflashcards.com/2009/01/an-apple-a-day.html.
Apple Pouf TreeI did modify Allison’s instructions a little bit, mostly because I love paper crafts and therefore have a ton of ink pads and such. Here are the list of items you need to make my version of this adorable craft!
red pom poms
Green paint
paintbrush
Tacky Glue
black marker and scissors
Brown stamping ink (I used Stampin’ Up brand)
half of a crafting sponge
blue construction paper
white cardstock or kid’s crafting paper

This is a great craft to do in stages. We did the first part on a Saturday morning and the second half after Sweet Pea’s nap.

Part One:
1. Trace a simple tree ‘deconstructed’ on a large piece of white paper and cut out the two parts of the tree.
2. Use the ink and sponge to daub the tree trunk brown.
3. Paint the tree leaves green and let everything dry.
Behind the Scenes Mommy Interlude:
Once the green tree leaves are dry, glue the tree to the blue construction paper. Ok, if your toddler is older, you could help them do this part too.
Part Two:
1. Help your toddler glue the pom pom apples to the tree! I was in charge of the glue. I was dot some glue on the tree and Sweet Pea was in charge of affixing the apples.
Sweet Pea really loved this craft so much, especially since it is such a cute apple tree craft. For days afterwards, she would see the apple tree on the refrigerator and exclaim, “I did it!” That is high praise from a 2-year old!

Pouf Sponge Apple Tree Craft

As with the other two apple tree crafts, I got the inspiration for this amazing craft from an amazing blog, Crafty Morning. Michelle at Crafty Morning has so many utterly adorable and simple kid craft ideas, that I literally have a long list of ‘must-do’ crafts to try with Sweet Pea. The link for her Pouf Sponge Apple Tree Craft is here: http://www.craftymorning.com/make-apple-tree-craft-using-pouf-sponge/
Apple Tree Pouf Craft

I followed Michelle’s directions for the first part of the craft, which is pretty self explanatory. Seriously though, who would have thought that a pouf sponge would make such a great paintbrush! I did use corks for the apple stamp instead of painting them on myself though.

This is the materials list for this craft:
Large white kid-craft paper
brown construction paper and scissors
green paint
bath pouf
cork
red paint

This is another great 2-part craft. Paint the tree in the morning and after it dries, add the apples in the afternoon! Each part takes a maximum of 15 to 20 minutes.
Apple Tree Pouf CraftI love the idea that there are so many non-craft items that can be used as paintbrushes and each one provides a different sensory experience for your toddler. Of course, the best sensory experience for your toddler is just doing a fun craft with you!

So, enjoy these fun projects with your kiddo and make some great memories!

Take care and Thanks for reading!
