This Easter Egg Bunting Would Look So Cute Hanging in Your House!

What is it with 3-year olds and tape? My daughter has a fascination with tape. As in, she wants to tape everything– my computer, the table, Minnie Mouse… everything. So, I thought we would direct that fleeting passion into a creative project. After all, isn’t that why washi tape was invented? So, we could have an excuse to, you know.. tape everything? In the process of making this super cute washi tape Easter Egg Bunting, I also confirmed another fleeting passion… cutting with scissors. Let’s hope she doesn’t decide to cut everything she sees. Hmmm.. maybe I should hide the glue. Read on to see how much fun we had making this Easter Egg Bunting Craft for Kids!

How We Made the Bunting

  • Ok, this is really a process art and fine motor skill activity disguised as a super cute craft. For the set up, I just set out the bowl of washi tape, gave Sweet Pea the scissors and let her create!

  • We quickly discovered that washi tape does not stick very well to craft foam. So, we used the Easter Egg foam shapes to trace egg shapes on pastel colored cardstock (pink, green, purple, orange, yellow, and white).
  • I did this craft with Sweet Pea, which is good because she was much more interested in cutting things.

  • Sweet Pea had a blast cutting tape, cutting paper, cutting foam. It was clear to me that she was not going to finish the craft with me, so I drew lines on pieces of cardstock and used our craft time as an excuse to let her practice scissor skills. As I finished the bunting, Sweet Pea was totally engaged in cutting.. everything.

  • If your kids are engaged in this craft, you can encourage them to try different patterns with the tape.
  • When you have decorated 8-10 Easter eggs, use a small circle punch to punch a wide hole in the top of each egg.

  • String ribbon through each of the eggs and then hang up your Easter Egg Bunting! Oh, last tip.. pick a mid-point egg. Then string half of the eggs from the back to the front and the other half of the eggs from the front to the back. This way you can see the front of all of the eggs.

So, there you have it. This is such a simple but fun craft/activity you can do with even young kids. Plus, this is a much more productive way to channel a tape obsession than Minnie Mouse.

Thanks for reading and have a great week!
